The short NBA playoffs could put a small bit of downward pressure on the 2017-18 salary cap, which is currently projected at $101M.
The short 2017 playoffs won’t put as much downward pressure on the 2017-18 salary cap as a long playoffs would’ve increased it.
You heard it first:

Thankfully, Thunder have no shot and Pacers screwed up the upset. Most series (GSW, HOU, CLE, SAS) being done in 4-5 could affect it negatively, tho, but at least BOS-CHI seems to be a long one of big markets.
In most cases, those differences are cosmetic, but for Celtics every dollar counts. Remember, cap space vs max contracts change 3:1, i.e. for every 3 dollars cap space changes, max contracts change only by 1$.
At the time, I couldn't predict Cavs would sweep the Raptors. Again, it's mostly cosmetic but with the small difference to the max at which Celtics operate, any dollar counts.
