If Porzingis/White/Brown/Tatum are healthy and we don't win a title, this is a bust. We're BY A MILE, the best team in the league. I feel as if this team might be one of the best in the past decade(on paper). I'm not ignoring Jrue, he's freaking amazing, but to me our top 4 are the aforementioned gentlement.
Good assessment:

PLO wrote:Tatum played OK - took advantage of a few mismatches - decent on the defensive end. He is what we thought he was going into the season - a technically very proficient player operating close to his career ceiling as a rookie.

He and Jaylen should host their own podcast together, I know JB hasn't had a great past month, but he also (least as far as I can ascertain living afar in Australia) has not seem as settled or happy to be in Boston since he was drafted (Max contract aside, I get the impression he enjoys KP and his unique/quirky sense of humour)

I do wish refs could take care better of Zinger in the paint. He gets hacked so much..

He's drawing fouls on 27% of his post ups, that's more than Embiid by 3%. I think the whistle is fine lol.

I probably get sucked into Scal and his commentary , whom bless his enthusiasm, does often make a big deal out of none calls our players get driving in the paint (esp JT) :)

Joe Mazzulla doesn't get enough credit for turning Kristaps into a post-up monster. Prior to this season, KP's reputation was someone who could shoot from the outside but didn't really have it to bang in the post. Now all of a sudden people are discovering an extremely skilled 7'3 player is a good post-up scorer.

I’m pretty sure that transformation started last year in Washington. He still had that reputation, but when we acquired him I remember reading about how impressive his post up numbers were in WAS and how he turned that around. Narrative just didn’t catch up because it was Washington lol

Top post up creators including passes on at least 100 Post ups

A porzingis post up is roughly 140 ortg, which makes it a more efficient play than a transition opportunity for the league's best transition teams. In fact, of any specific play with more then 140 reps, a porzingis post up is THE most efficient play in the nba, second being Curry coming off a screen and third a Kawhi Iso.

He is WRECKING stuff. Ofc plays like Kawhi isos or curry coming off screens are much easier to get to, since the Celtics have to do all the work of getting the switch and making a successful entry pass etc whereas a Kawhi iso is just give the ball to kawhi and clear out.

Still though, an absolutely insane weapon. These stats include passes made from the post ups so that's why they are different (more complete) than those from NBA.com. Also of note that an insane 27% of Porzingis post up result in a foul drawn, an absolutely nuts rate.

This tidbit is from Jared Dubin's substack:

"KP is routinely devouring teams that guard him with smaller players either in the post or when they try to switch pick and rolls. In fact, he has been the single-most efficient scorer this season both from the post (1.58 points per possession), and on pick-and-roll switches when he gets the ball (1.63), according to Second Spectrum."

Thanks for this.

Is it possible to check PPP for White-KP and Tatum-KP PnR, including passes?

Sorry no can do, i only have access to Synergy and they dont parse by individual ballhandlers. That's Second Spectrum.

The thing I've wondered for a while now is, what other teams wanted KP this offseason?

We know Utah because Marc Stein said that, but did zero other teams call? Like imagine him on the Warriors, or on Miami, or even back on the Knicks.

The injury concerns with him will always be there, but he's been such a perfect fit on this team and would've been on other teams too

Pretty sure there was Lakers few hours before Boston came up.
I was like look Lakers looking at KP and Boston went in.
Warriors/Miami for sure where in the mix.Money would work for both teams.
Miami reddit was talking like week before trade.

In the end KP controled situation.

Tbf Porzingis was in the worst position to grab Murray's 30 bricks because he was the one defending most of them.

Counted one instance where he's the defender on Murray's long shot. Counted at least 7 instances where he's in the vicinity of the miss and didn't get the ball.

Yeah the worst was when Porzingis and Kornet both stood watching a missed layup bounce into the opposing player's hands.

His individual rebounding in the playoffs will be big as we face better teams in a more physical environment. Just like Al in the past as a starter it could be a weakness. Gang rebounding will be a must, but unfortunately that strategy also slows our pace down as guys can’t leak out and spacing on potential fast breaks isn’t as good to start a play. Nothing worse than good defense for 23 seconds that ends with an offensive rebound and kick out wide open 3.

This was brought up on the latest episode of Dunker Spot...

We already know KP is #1 in entire league in Post-Up efficiency scoring roughly 1.30 PPP. He's had 196 postups entering the Kings game. ONLY SEVEN of those have come in clutch minutes. And we scored THIRTEEN points on those.

5% of KP's minutes have come in the clutch. Only 3.5% of his postups have come in the clutch. Seems like we can go to it more considering his efficiency in those.

They also discussed how we could MAYBE get into our sets earlier instead of walking it up, wasting clock, and going into our initial action with 8-10 seconds left in the shot clock. To me, this is both a coaching and Tatum issue since JT is essentially the primary offensive engine/initiator on the floor in crunch time.
