Zinger with 30 and Beal with a goose egg last night. What a loser. Debate over, we got the better dude.

Porzingis doubled up Wembanyama in points, had 9 more free throws, 3 more rebounds, 3 more blocks, 4 less turnovers, and a win.

Fantastic first game but he played too many minutes, he should be capped at 32 mpg for durability reasons. Its going to be a really long season and 5 or 6 minutes a game over 75 games or so is like putting an extra 10 games of wear and tear on a guy we will NEED to be fresh in the playoffs. I am loving this trade so fare (verdict on the Jrue trade TBD). Porzingus is a great fit, and we now have a trio in JT JB and KP that is as good as anyones in the league.

Re: Welcome to Boston, Kristaps Porzingis!
Never pegged him for a smart defender either. Which after a few games, I think he is. Coming into a new system, I thought he would need a period of adjustment esp on defense. There was one play, can't recall, when, but Knicks were trying to get him on a switch towards the top of the key, but instead pre-switched out w/ JB and directed him towards the perimeter so he could cover the corner/baseline. Him understanding coverages this early helps this team a ton esp if Horford keeps coming off the bench and Smart is no longer there to quarterback the D.

It seems like we got him at the perfect time in his career. He just seems so wholeheartedly ready to sacrifice individual pursuits for team goals. I think all players as talented as him envision themselves as “the guy” but he’s humbled himself to where he knows he isn’t going to be the guy it all revolves around and he’s ok with it.

A lot of guys become ready to sacrifice when they’re on the decline like they finally realized they weren’t good enough anymore to be “the guy”. It’s refreshing that he’s come in young enough that he didn’t have to make the sacrifice or it was forced on him by a coaching, but it’s his choice.

Interesting stat; brook lopez led the league in shots contested per game last year at 22.6 with a -4.5 differential vs expected fg%. This year so far, with Charles lee in Boston, its kristaps with 21.3 fga contested per game, with a -5.1 differential vs expected fg%

My only concern is if the refs realize he isn't Daniel Theis. What is it with the whistle and Eastern Eurorpean Celtics big men?

Re: Welcome to Boston, Kristaps Porzingis!
The fouls in almost all of these games have probably eaten into this, but need to find a way to get him more involved late. They did it against New York but not much since. He’s probably our second best scorer when factoring in versatility. OT last night was frustrating. No two man action with him at all except JB deciding to take a turnaround on Gobert

Goebert really shut the lane down last night. I know we want to make fun of him becuase they got 6 picks for him, but he really is an elite defensive player.

KP is 4th on the team in crunch time usage rate. That number needs to be higher than at least Jrue's

I mean, a PG is typically going to have a higher usage than a big man - it's just the way the game is played.
Also, we've only had like 3 close games so far this season - that's hardly a sample size that's large enough to draw any conclusions from.
1/11/24 The birth of a new Hal. From now on being less combative, avoiding confrontation - like Switzerland
