POLL: Circled on the Celtics Calendar (Remaining Sched Talk)

Post#1 » by zoyathedestroya » Wed Jan 24, 2024 8:30 am

Celtics are currently projected to have the 2nd easiest remaining schedule. It's been a fun regular season so far and we've been stacking up wins. On the surface, it appears we've made strides, both from individual players and as a team, but we've also seen some of the same issues from the past rear their ugly head in clutch situations against top competition.

As much as I look forward to the Cs playing the Sprinkles Cupcakes of the league, I also want them to be tested more by the physical, defensive, smart teams. As have been said in the past, there's not much to learn from blowout wins. As cool as it is to have a historic SRS/net rating, blowout wins don't prep you for the postseason. Give me more down-to-the-wire games please and see how they fare.

After January, 20 of the 34 teams we are going up against are currently below .500. Not much tough competition left. So here are the teams I look forward to facing (and hopefully beating) the most:

• 1/25, @ MIA: mostly healthy Heat that just added Rozier
• 1/27, v. LAC: they're 20-4 since start of December
• 1/29, v. NOP: #2 offense, #3 net in last 10 games
• 1/30: v. IND: they just kicked our butts last game
• 2/11, @ MIA: give me 10 Heat RS games for practice
• 2/27, v. PHI: Embiid is having another MVP season
• 3/7, @ DEN: self-explanatory; gonna be tough
• 3/9: @ PHX: they're putting it together now that they're healthy
• 3/20, v. MIL: new coach, would they have improved at this point?
• 4/3, v. OKC: might be most consistent team this season

Let's go 7-3 or 8-2 here! :D

I think that Celtics Win 60-65 Games.
Either way, we'll have Homecourt Advantage throughout the Playoffs.

30-8 for the remaining games seems like a lowball setting the bar low, but I’m assuming we rest some guys here and there. I wouldn’t be surprised with better than that, but would be with worse.

The Knicks games will be interesting. Already played them 3x and won all three but those were before the OG Anunoby trade. The Knicks have looked pretty good since then (10-2 since trade) and are a potential 2nd round match up.

And of course always look forward to a chance to beat the Lakers.

On the plus side, the Heat on 1/25 and Clippers on 1/27 will both be coming off a back to back so the C's will have the rest advantage.

February has a lot of rest compared to what they’ve been doing.

Beginning tomorrow against the Heat the C's have:

-11 games in 21 days (1/25-2/14)
-7 days off for all star
-11 games in 22 days (2/22-3/14)
-11 games in 22 days (3/15-4/5)
-5 games in 9 days to end season, but guys will likely be resting anyway and there will be a few days off for play in tourney.

So in general they will have a much less condensed schedule.

As for a prediction? I'm going to say 29-9 to end the year. The schedule gets easier but by the end of the year I think their lead for the one seed is big enough they rest guys or take their foot off the gas a bit.

Need a good balance between rest and rust. Don't want them sitting consecutive games to end the season as much as possible. Maybe stagger the rest between the starters/Horford.

I just want 26 wins, homecourt for the playoffs+finals, and health. Anything else will be a cherry on top.

Ease of Remaining Schedule Rank of Current Top 8 Teams:

1. BOS - 2nd
2. OKC - 10th
3. MIL - 30th
4. MIN - 9th
5. PHI - 16th
6. DEN - 15th
7. LAC - 17th
8. CLE - 4th

Celtics currently have a 3+ games lead over everyone.

Info you didn't need to know but will be getting anyway -- Celtics recently had six different leading scorers in consecutive games.

The difficult portion of the schedule is almost over and Joe has successfully navigated rest vs. winning imo. I didn't think we could limit Porzingis and Horford to under 30 mpg, but he did that. KP has already rested in/missed 12 games and Horford 8. JT and JB are both playing less than last season. Hauser and Pritchard are playing over 20 mpg (and Luke 15 mpg) while being on top of the league in bench net rating.

Expect more rest for the main guys towards the end of reg season IF we can separate ourselves in the league standings.

The hard part of the season is finally over. I think we did okay lol.

Hope they don't relax too much against the Sprinkles Cupcakes of the league. We still need that no. 1 seed and HCA throughout playoffs. (While avoiding the injury bug.)

20 of the remaining 34 opponents are projected by ESPN Power Index to have less than 50% chance of making the playoffs. All 20 currently have a sub-.500 win percentage.

This is the TCOB portion of our schedule.
