Morey traded Springer to free up $4.0 million in cap space next year and he got a 2nd round pick out of it to boot. Plain and simple.

Morey sure gave Springer lots of motivation/bulletin board material lol. Hopefully Jaden has a long career and destroys Philly for the full duration of it.

“That one’s pretty straightforward in that, again, we’re focused on winning the title,” said President of Basketball Operations Daryl Morey. “We had to look at, ‘What are the odds Jaden Springer — who I think has a great future — will help our playoff rotation in the one, two, three-year maybe horizon? And what are the odds that the second-round pick will help us?’ And we thought the second-round pick helped us more. That’s just the reality.”

Brad and Morey seem to be on very opposite ends as far as whether Springer is able to contribute to playoff basketball. Sixers fans agree with Brad from what I've seen.

Can't wait until the Sixers roll into the playoffs with a starting frontcourt of Embiid/Future second round pick/Cash consideration. Contender for sure

Tobias Harris:

“He’s gonna make a great impact,” Harris said. “Sad to see him go. That’s been my young fella ever since Tennessee. He’s gonna be in a great situation over there. I think everybody got to see really how great of a defensive player he’s going to be. Just by us playing last few games he played, but I’m excited to see him get opportunity over there and showcase what he can do.”

“Every year he was here, he put in a lot of work, a lot of time to improve his game and made great improvements on it,” Harris finished. “He’s gonna be a very good player in the NBA.”

And the Celtics did the trade because they are fine with paying Springer $4 mil next season and giving up a 2nd round pick to get him.

Time will tell who was right and who wins the trade.

Maybe both teams win..if that 2nd round pick ends up hitting for Philly.

Or both teams could lose, if Springer is bad in Boston and if the 2nd round pick misses for Philly.

We'll see..

Obviously it's too soon to tell for sure. But so far pretty much everyone (except Morey) seems to think Boston won the trade and Philly lost.

I think the Sixers fans who are pissed figure that $4 mil in cap space is nothing, especially for a team that spends a ton on its roster every year, desperately trying to get over the hump before Embiid asks out, to try and win their 1st title since 1983.

So they figure it comes down to a 2nd round pick or Springer. And they think Springer is a good player and they figure it's unlikely they will get a guy better than him in the 2nd round..especially someone who they already have been developing for 2.5 years so is likely closer to contributing to a championship team than some rookie who hasn't even been drafted yet.

Oh man. I sure hope Jaden prints that quote out and puts it up in his locker for motivation.

Prove him wrong, Jaden!

Not to get carried away but just the physical build (eg look at his arms) the guy he reminds me of is Ron Artest. Sort of that thick angular physique is what makes me think of him.

Not sure if this one was posted:

Edit:
Worth noting this guy (from about a year ago) says his least strong suit defensively is quicker shiftier guards. I do think there is something there for the org philosophy that’s sort of a ‘guard drivers from behind while help takes the front’ thing idk if that makes sense.

Oh and this is funny. These tweets must have been after Pat Bev was traded from Philly but before Springer was traded from Philly lol..

I think Joe's approach will be the same as Queta. Long term project > play now. But between Springer, Walsh and Queta, energy should be in abundance at some point. All with having, in my eyes, a higher ceiling than many are projecting.

He's a crazy good shot blocker for his size. He plays defense like a young game changer. I'm pretty excited about this acquisition, and I am not yet sure if I should be, because it's all based on his highlights, which are for sure impressive. Super excited to see both him and Tillman.
