The Yankees have a better lineup, no doubt about that. The Red Sox have four of the greatest pitchers of all time, while the Yankees pitchers are not quite as good. So who would win in seven games?

If the games are set up so that Pedro can pitch in 3 of the games I'll take the Red Sox. Otherwise it's the Yankees.

I'd put A-Rod at short and Charlie Keller in LF. Probably Red Rolfe at 3B unless Nettles' defense really was that great. DiMaggio as the DH over Jackson. Maybe switch Keller and DiMaggio; I don't know how good a fielder Keller was.

Definitely Yaz in LF over Manny. And Tris Speaker in CF.

Wow. Pedro v. Ruth. Pedro would drill him in his ass.

By these criteria:

In general a player has to have at least two great years or three good years to be considered a member of a team. But some teams (especially expansion teams) don't have a player who had ANY good years at a certain position. So, for example, the Padres get Alomar at second out of pity.

Note: Players are strictly judged by how they performed for each particular team. In the case of Renteria on the Marlins, for example, you're supposed to think of him strictly as he was on the Marlins. The Marlins get no credit for how Renteria has performed in St. Louis. (But he still might be Florida's best SS, of course.) That goes for all the players and pitchers.

Even with ARod gaining all-time franchise eligibility per my standards, Sox pitching still >>>> Yankees pitching, so I think the Sox pull out a 7 game victory even though the Yankees win a couple games 19-8.

Imo, the red sox pitching is so great that they would be unbeatable in a seven game series. Pedro was the most dominant starter ever. Joe Wood's peak was nearly as good as Pedro (but much shorter). Clemens, Cy Young, and Lefty Grove all have legitimate cases for greatest pitcher ever. The Yankees have never really had one of the best pitchers in the game (they only had roger for a very short time). Since pitching beats hitting the Red Sox beat the Yankees in seven games. The Yankees offense might win more games if they played a season, but in a shorter series i would rather have the red sox.
