Heyward or Strasburg
Who would you choose to have on your team?

Strasberg if healthy.
Basketball is driven by three principles:
1) Movement 2) Application of fundamentals 3) Predictability

Strasburg, I'm not sure if Heyward is the type who could carry a lineup. You can find any outfielder that can hit .275, 20 homers, 80 rbis.
Bickerstaff: who's up for kickball?!!
Ed Wood: Only if it's the no-pants variety.

I'll be the first to admit that I'm a homer and heavily bias as a Braves fan but I believe that Heyward will have better numbers than that, those were his rookie numbers and he's still 22 years old. He had a shoulder injury that plaiged him all of last year, he's doing good this year tho. I think either would be a great choice with which to start or lead a team, they'll be forever compared because of the fact that they were numbers 1 and 2 respectfully on the list of MLB's top 50 prospects in 2009 and that's why I brought up the question.

Strasburg easily. And I don't think I've ever heard them compared, so I highly doubt they'll be forever compared. Maybe you should be comparing Heyward to Stanton, to which I still think he loses as he doesn't have that elite power.

Strasburg. Not close and I like Heyward.

Strasburg is a once in a generation talent and he's got TJS out of the way. Heyward is always struggling with nagging injuries that keep him from playing to his ability. Even when he's healthy, he's not on that level. Healthy Heyward is definitely better than Stanton, though.

Definitely better? Ridiculous. Heyward will never come close to the kind of power Stanton has. Heyward I think has a slight advantage defensively and in overall plate discipline. I can see someone saying Heyward is better, but it's damn close if he even is.

Re: Heyward or Strasburg
Have you seen the HRs Heyward has hit? He's got power for days. He's just not that type of slugger, so he'll probably never hit as many HR as Stanton. He'll hit more singles, doubles, and triples and get on base more. Assuming he ever spends more time off of the day-to-day list than on it. And he has a very clear advantage in both defense and base-running.

Ah, so the legend of Heyward is similar to that of Ichiro I see. And yes, Heyward will probably never hit as many HR as Stanton just like I probably won't be ****ing Kate Upton tonight. To even think their power is comparable is silly.

Whatever you say. But I have no problem with Stanton hitting more HR if Heyward is better at everything else.

Re: Heyward or Strasburg
Everything else? Is that why Stanton has more career doubles in less AB and a better career average? Odd how Heyward is better at that. I would label Heyward a great defensive RF while Stanton a good defensive RF, there isn't much difference there. Just like I would say Heyward is a slightly above average baserunner (no idea how he has so many SB so far this season) and Stanton is a slighly below average baserunner. And Heyward has more patience at the plate, which I think is the biggest difference right now, Heyward also has better contact ability but it hasn't translated into average. If Heyward's better contact ability translates into more average that is when I could see myself picking him, or if he is legend of Ichiro'ing us with his power, which of course would mean he is a dumb baseball player.

Re: Heyward or Strasburg
I said healthy Heyward is better than Stanton. He has tried to play through multiple injuries that altered his stance and approach at the plate. As a result his numbers took a dip his rookie year and downright sucked last year. You can come back with another snarky comment about "potential" or whatever. It's just my opinion that Heyward is a better talent than Stanton. I'm confident the numbers at the end of this season will reflect that barring any significant time missed.
And there is more to baserunning than just SB totals. Heyward is tremendous at stretching singles into doubles, doubles into triples, going first to third, etc.
By the way, I wish Heyward had enough power to hit an opposite-field 400ft HR on a ball a foot outside. (I know, I know, Braves suck)

Re: Heyward or Strasburg
I got quite a chuckle of the HR last night considering this convo, everyone else at the bar, not so much. And geez, way to show TLR respect on his night even after the fans gave Chipper a standing O, so classless that Heyward is. Oh well, at least it got Kimbrel the save for my fantasy team.
And yes, I know there is more than baserunning than SB, I was using bb-ref and BP baserunning numbers and the ~20 games I've seen to make that call.

Re: Heyward or Strasburg
That was an impressive gesture by the fans.
EDIT: Heyward has been awful since I said he was better than Stanton. Not to mention Stanton himself robbed Heyward of a huge hit. So I take it all back! Heyward sucks, Stanton rules!

I'd have to go with Strasburg here and it isn't really close.
