Best Pitcher of 1990's: Greg Maddux or Roger Clemens?

Post#1 » by randomhero423 » Fri Dec 14, 2007 9:51 pm

Who was better from 1990-2000? Everyone is telling me Clemens still but i Don't buy it. Maddux was more consistent 15-19 game winner, and had a SENSATIONAL 19-2 season with a era below TWO. He also didn't cheat, while Clemens did (which gave him the two great years as a 'jay). Maddux has always been severely underrated to the likes of guys like Randy Johnson, Roger Clemens, etc.

Must be true, if it's a rumor you read on Hoopshype.

Maddux. Just look at how many more innings he threw. And with a much better ERA.

Clemens: 2177 IP, 3.02 ERA
Maddux: 2394 IP, 2.54 ERA

Maddux's '94 and '95 seasons were two of the top five ERA+ performances in history.

I'll take Pedro's 2 best years over any 2 years either of those guys had, but overall, I'd have to say Maddux.

I would take Maddux because he is so consistent and at a high level. In some ways, he redefined the way you look for pitching because he proved you didn't need to be a flamethrower to be successful at this level.

If Maddux took HGH, Steroids, or any other performance enhancing drug, he'd be pitching in the mid 90's.

With that speed complimented by his almost-perfect pitching brain, he would've got 10 Cy Youngs compared to Roger's 7.
