Re:
I remember reading a comment either from Scott or the owner, mentioning how they liked the team they had, and planned on getting some of the guys back who have expiring deals (Pargo/Bonzi/Andersen/Ely/Bowen) to which I responded: "NOOOOOOOO!"
Did they watch the playoffs? Why did NO lose? Because nobody off the bench decided to show up against SA. Bonzi was horrible. He needs to go. Ely was horrible, and Duncan dominated him. Andersen and Bowen didn't get much time, so if they don't even play, why re-sign them?
NO's biggest weakness is their frontline. Yes, they have TC and West, but TC can't create his own shot down low on a consistent basis, and West is more a midrange guy and doesn't work down on the low block that much. When TC gets into foul trouble, we need another big who can step in and defend and be a low post offensive threat.
Their second biggest weakness is the backup point. Pargo is more a shooting point ala Bobby Jackson, and he isn't that good running the offense as a distributer. The best thing about Pargo is his defense.
So, I think they should go after a big and a guard.
Guards I think they should go after:
Jose Calderon - efficient player, might take a pay cut to play for a contender.
Beno Udrih - FA, don't know if he would rather re-sign with Sac so he can be a starter instead of going back to the bench.
Make a deal for Brevin Knight. He's an expiring contract and cheap (and can be a solid backup to Chris), and would be easy to make a deal. Possibly a sign-and-trade Pargo + Butler for Knight + Tim Thomas? That would give the hornets another big body who can actually contribute off the bench and LA would want to do it for Pargo because they need a point guard really bad.
Bigs I think they should look at:
Brian Skinner - comes VERY cheap and can provide the defense and rebounding the team needs off the bench
Chris Mihm - had injury problems, but hasn't gotten time to get back into his game. Before his health issues, he was a very productive and energetic player. I think he could be a solid reserve.
Tim Thomas, Mikki Moore, Channing Frye, Villanueva, Jeff Foster are more guys who can contribute off the bench (aren't FA's though, would need to make some deals).
Other players I like:
Childress!

Re: Free Agents! Who Do You Want?
The hornets need a shooting guard that can slash and create their own shot. That is why they couldnt beat the Spurs, once there number one option who is their number one passer and scorer was shut down Peja, David, Tyson was looking like a deer in the headlights; no one could fuction.
ANSWER
Corey Maggette He is capable of bringing the ball up the court; scoring twenty without being set up; and relieve backcourt pressure on Paul

Chris Broussard thinks Maggette would do well in New Orleans.

Re: Free Agents! Who Do You Want?
Cavs fan here. I'm hoping we make a serious run at Maggette for the MLE, but I have a feeling he'll end up a Hornet. He'd be the final piece of a fantastic starting line up. Boston (denied even offering Maggette a contract) and Orlando (if Duhon agrees to the 3 year $10 million contract) are seemingly out of the race for Corey. I'd say it's down to New Orleans, San Antonio, and Cleveland (outside chances of Philly and Golden State). Cleveland NEVER seems to get lucky with free agents, but hopefully this is finally the year that having Lebron as a selling point pays off for the Cavs. Plus, Corey would be our #2 scoring option, anywhere else he'd be #3 or #4.
Best of luck in the Maggette sweepstakes!
