Felix Pie - over/under rated?

Post#1 » by treyZz » Mon May 28, 2007 11:46 pm

AAA - Iowa stats:

43 hits / 106 at bats

.406 avg / 3 home runs / 21 rbi's / 5 sb / 28 runs / .467 obp / .604 slug / 1.070 ops

#1 in avg
#2 in ops
#4 in slug
#1 in obp

5 tool CF who just turned 22. 4 championships in 5 pro seasons. One of the best, if not the best CFers in the minors. (defensively)

BA has him ranked only #49. :nonono:

I think he's very under rated, is he over/under rated in your opinion?

I wouldn't say he is either under or overrated. What I will say is that he was a better prospect a season or two ago. Since that time, there have been a number of upcoming prospects that have ''caught up to him.'' That has lowered his prospect status. Those guys include Maybin, Bruce, Upton, Tabata, Martinez, etc. None of them are in the high minors (other than Upton who just moved to AA), but when Pie was a top OF prospect two years ago all of those guys were basically in short season ball.

I'd love to see him get some significant MLB time so we can see where he's at...

He had some time in the majors. He didn't hit very well this year but his fielding was amazing. Give him a little bit more time in the minors and this kid is going to be a star.

Thats because he's coming off a .792 OPS year, of course he's not gonna be ranked that high. And I'm sure if BA re-did there rankings as of right now, he would crack the top 25, but just barely.

Also, I'm curious if any Cubs fans know why Pie played some RF last year.

I still wouldn't put Pie as a top 5 OF prospect but thats not really a bad thing.

So to more answer your question, yes he was underrated coming into the season but thats mostly because he wasn't the hot name anymore and had a down year.

Pie had a terrible first half last season at AAA. But in his defense he was coming off a brutal ankle injury. He had a very good second half though.

I think he might have played a little RF early last year, because his ankle was bothering him. He has a cannon arm and can play RF easily.

I think the Cubs let Eric Patterson try some CF as well, but he couldn't handle it so Pie moved back.

The Cubs have so much good young talent but they can't put them anywhere. We have so much hitting in the minors but no pitching.

You really think so? They pretty much have Pie and Patterson and thats it to me. They have some 25 year olds in AA that are hitting good so far this year, but thats not all that impressive. While also having a couple 27 year olds in AAA that have been good. The Cubs prospect hitting depth is pretty bad in my opinion.

Edit-Also at the beginning of the season Kevin Goldstein ranked the Cubs hitting prospects at 26th overall.

Pie called up..

Hopefully for good and hopefully Lou doesn't dick him around like last time.

I'm excited to see how he will play the second time around.

judging from the fact that I haven't really heard that much about him and he's playing as well as he is, I'd say he's a little bit underrated.
