AJC.com says 8 yr $135 mill, not the rumored 125 mill.

Not a good deal for Heyward. He is worth much more they will end up losing him or overpaying him when they should have locked him up. I would rather be paying Heyward $15 million over the next 5+years than B.J. Upton but whatever atleast we have him for the next 2 years.

Very happy with the Heyward and Freeman signings. And if Jason picks it up next year and starts off the following year well, he'll get a long term contract. He knows it. But he has not produced like people expected and he seems to be fine with the millions he will get now and the opportunity to prove he is worth $12 - $15 mil/yr. So far, he has not proven he is that player, but I still believe in him and that he can become that player.

Now, we just need to get Kimbrel taken care of and keep him for a few years.

Freddie really has not proved anything himself. Not like he has done any damage in the playoffs. He has only one year with 100+RBI's, one year with over a .300 hitting average, and never hit more than 23 HR's in a year.

Freddie is good and all but I think the contract is premature and naming him the face of the franchise when he really has not done anything is a bad example. This whole offseason has been bad business. I hope we don't have a bad season next year but I can kind of see it coming if we hit a rough patch.

He's only really been in the league 3 years, and he hasn't even hit his prime yet. Last year he was without a doubt our best player, and he finished 5th in the MLB in MVP voting. What more can you really ask of a 23 year old (now 24). In this sport, when you have the opportunity to lock up a franchise player long term to a reasonable deal you do it immediately, especially with no salary cap and financial powerhouses such as the Yankees and Dodgers lurking.

That is the problem. I don't see him as a franchise player. He only has 1 year with a .ops of over .800, Jason has 2 such years. Jason also has the biggest homer year amongst the 2 with 27. I think Freddie is benefiting from fewer expectations while Jason is being hurt from greater expectations. Freddie is not the only one that powerhouse teams will be lurking after.

We already made mistakes with trading and paying Uggla and possibly B.J. I dont think this will be as big a mistake but it could prove to be premature.

Freddie's agent did a fantastic job getting him this many years and money. Had other teams had a chance to sign him the offers would probably been similar, if not more, and I'm pleased to have him locked in long-term.

Wren is trying to get this out of the way early on, and I'm liking it. Simmons is going to be arbitration eligable every year until 2019 and I'm sure Wren wants to sign him to a reasonable contract throughout those years to avoid the hassle of arbitration. He's a special player man, his offensive numbers were pretty average but he still finished 14th in MVP voting because of his glove, this kid is far and away the best defensive player in the Majors.

I think the situation is the same with Teheran as it is with Simmons, he's arbitration eligible for a number of years and Wren doesn't want to deal with that year after year.

Simmons is definitely desirable defensively but he needs to find a home in the lineup and preferably at leadoff for him to really deserve a long-term extension. Teheran has a long ways to go before he can be a ace in the big leagues. This is really not beneficial to Simmons and Teheran because they really don't know there value yet. Really not a fan of Wren's decision making. He should be trying to trade Uggla and or B.J. instead of jumping the gun on extensions.

Complete details of Freeman's contract have been released: he gets a $2.875 million signing bonus, then salaries of $5.125 million in 2014, $8.5 million in 2015 and $12 million in 2016. The salary jumps to $20.5 million in 2017, then $21 million in 2018 and 2019, and $22 million in the last two years of the deal, 2020 and 2021.

It's a smart move on our part: his contract doesn't really spike until 2017 which is when we're moving into the Cobb county stadium and earning some additional revenue from the move. Wren also says that the contract spike will be in the years Freeman was gonna hit free agency.

I'm content with it.
I just hope he lives up to the money and becomes the hall of famer we need him to be.

http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/ ... extension/

And we lock up Teheran to a six year contract. Another good move by Wren imo, we lock up our young pitcher throughout his arbitration years and two of his FA years, he'll be 29 when his contract expires. We're taking care of our own, home grown players.

Very happy with keeping Teheran. Wren is tying up all our important young talent already on the team which now makes me understand why they were not really buyers on the FA market. Spending their money on our young players to keep them Braves. With a limited payroll, I can understand his thinking.

Andrelton Simmons has to be next right? Either him or Minor.

4 year deal for Kimbrel. Do not know terms yet. But the Braves are keeping the core of their young talent and I like this decision by the front office.

I like all these deals! I hope Simmons gets locked into a contract extension!
