Phillip was our 2nd rounder, seemed like way too high to pick him there, and he's started out poorly. We'll see. Wish Allard the best of luck in Texas. He seems like a great kid.

I've bashed the Braves 2nd round pick, but it seems like they more than made up for it in the 3rd round with Michael Harris. He was listed as a pitcher when they drafted him, because he's got a 92 MPH fastball at age 18, but he's been playing CF mostly for the Braves GCL team. He's been far and away the best hitter on the team hitting .381 with an OPS over .950 in his first 80 at bats. With that fastball, he's certainly got the arm to play CF or RF, and he's stolen 4 of 5 bases. He's also known as a switch-hitter with plus power potential. Not to be confused with Trey Harris, another good-hitting OFer playing for the Braves' AA team - with Pache and Waters.

Wow, glad to hear it. I think Atlanta's more aggressive in their promotions than other organizations. Or more likely, they just have better very young talent than most other organizations. Others just don't have 20 year olds in AAA.

The Gwinnett Stripers added one impressive group of reinforcements on Monday, including No. 2 prospect Drew Waters, No. 1 prospect Christian Pache, No. 3 prospect Ian Anderson and No. 13 prospect Tucker Davidson. Tuesday was the grand debut, with Waters coming away with three hits and an RBI. Waters hadn't put together a multihit game since June 24 and hasn't homered since June 15, but he still leaves Double-A behind with some very impressive numbers at the level. The 20-year-old outfielder hit .319 with an .847 OPS for Double-A Mississippi, and he now joins a reloaded Gwinnett squad for a playoff push in the International League

Camargo, if that is a possibility. He's struggling worse that Riley.

I still feel comfortable with Camargo in key situations. He seems to hit much better with RISP. Anyway, with Riley's injury, it's a non-issue. Hopefully, the injury isn't too bad.

Ball got promoted to Rome after OPSing 1.086 at Danville - more than 350 points higher than any other regular on the team. Went 3 for 5 in his first game with Rome.

3rd rounder Michael Harris also got promoted to Rome (but from the GCL Braves - where he did real well.) So now, they're both on the same team as 1st rounders Langeliers and Shewmake. Shewmake's doing real well there. Harris is much younger than the others - at 18 while the others are all 21. Btw, 21 is a perfectly fine age for that league; 18 is very young, so they must have been extremely impressed with Harris - letting him skip Danville and go straight from the GCL to Rome. Combined with that info, this interview from shortly after the draft makes me think the Braves may have struck gold with him - but it's early - so you never know.

Make that three straight multihit performances for Shewmake, who is hitting .326 through the first 49 games of his professional career. The 2019 first-rounder was regarded as one of the best pure hitters among college shortstops and has certainly lived up to that billing thus far. Shewmake has only hit a trio of homers, but has shown extra-base pop with 18 doubles and a pair of triples.

5. OF Cristian Pache, Atlanta Braves (AAA)

Already regarded as the best defensive outfielder in minor league baseball, Pache has taken his offensive game to another level. The 20-year-old was aggressively promoted to Double-A to start the year, and he responded by hitting .278/.340/.474 with 28 doubles, eight triples and 11 home runs in 104 games before moving on to Triple-A. Even with average offensive production, he could be a Kevin Kiermaier-type, but there's potential for a lot more.

23. RHP Ian Anderson, Atlanta Braves (AAA)

Now the top pitching prospect in the Atlanta system, Anderson has been aggressively promoted since he was picked third overall in the 2016 draft, and he has been up to the challenge every step of the way. After posting a 2.68 ERA with 147 strikeouts in 111 innings at Double-A to start the year, he was bumped up to Triple-A. A September debut is not out of the question after the Braves called up a number of young arms for the final month last season.

27. OF Drew Waters, Atlanta Braves (AAA)

Overshadowed in a sea of high-ceiling pitching prospects in the Atlanta system, Waters has turned in a breakout season while reaching Triple-A at the age of 20. The toolsy outfielder is hitting .318/.364/.482 with 52 extra-base hits and 14 steals in 114 games in the upper levels of the minors, and he has shown the athleticism to stick in center field with the arm to man right.
