Adam LaRoche to Red Sox

Post#1 » by timd1218 » Wed Jul 22, 2009 4:34 pm

He wasn't in the lineup today for the Buccos and The Pittsburgh Post Gazette has reported he has been traded to the Red Sox. The return is unknown. Have fun with him. He sucks. Hits meaningless home runs and when it comes time for him to actually do something, he fails.

Here is the link. It's a little slow:

Wow. They didn't wait for the 31st. Jumped right in to a deal. Guess that means no adrian gonzalez. Need more details, but looks like insurance for Lowell. They could move youk over to 3rd.

I like it.

Eh, probably signals the end of Kotsay at first, which is good, because he's one zombie too many with Lowell back.
Mostly a depth move for the corners. I would have preferred a better defensive guy, but Theo has his plans and I'll toe the company line on this one.

So how was the Laroche brothers era in Pitt? Everything you could have dreamt of?

Wonder who got shipped out..
How are the Pirates at short? Would a free Julio Lugo do anything for them?

Lol. Andy is starting to come around with his potential. He his much better defensively then I was expecting.

Adam, as you can tell, I hated. He played well when it didn't matter. 5-0 games, he'd hit a solo shot to make it 5-1 but would come up to bat with a 5-4 game, runners on 2nd and 3rd with 2 outs and would always get out. I'm just happy to see him out of here. I could care less if Huntington even got anything decent in return.

Other then Wilson, they have nothing at SS. Bixler is terrible and he is the closest thing to being able to play in the Majors. I'd pass on Lugo. Not thrilled with his contract and I never liked him anyway. I doubt Huntington would take on the money.

some guy on sosh wrote:Lugo and Pittsburgh would go together like peanut butter and jelly.
Thought that was funny.

Damn, with that review by Tim I'm off to Logan to welcome this guy to Boston.

They definitly wouldn't take Lugo. They have jack wilson as well as freddy. And I think those two guys just turned down extensions cause they want out. I wouldn't be surprised if Theo asked about freddy or Jack, and the price was too high, so he stuck with laroche.

Alex speir (sp) some insider from eei, has reported that Manny Delcarmen is NOT apart of this deal.

He's free, or damn close to it though. He got dfa'd last week so the Sox are either paying him 13mil to sit on his ass, or we can ship em off somewhere far, far away.

Lol, no ones taking lugo. Theo should have done the Willis for Lugo deal in the off-season. I'm not sure how Dontrelle is doing, but he has to be better than Lugo. Younger, stash him in the minors or something.

I'm just waiting on the pieces of this deal to fall. Do we give up saito and a prospect? Someone on the major league roster has to go, either to the minors or off the team.

Willis had a mental meltdown(again) after a decent game earlier this year. He's on the fast track to section 8. And I was always a guy who held out hope for his phoenix-like return.

I'd be fine with trading a c-level prospect and just releasing Kotsay to clear room on the 40-man.

Also stolen from SoSH:
One thing to consider is that LaRoche is a notorious second half player. Here are his numbers from July 1st on each of the last 3 seasons (only because I had it saved somewhere else):

2006: .324AVG 53R 19HR 50RBI (256 AB)
2007: .321AVG 40R 11HR 43RBI (290 AB)
2008: .321AVG 34R 17HR 51RBI (216 AB)

Those numbers are extremely consistant and VERY good.

HackswithHaggsWEEI.com's Alex Speier reporting that its Argenis Diaz and Hunter Strickland going to Pittsburgh for Adam Laroche. #redsox #pirates

Don't mind that too much, though I was patiently awaiting Diaz bringing his D up to Boston.

Don't forget they just signed 2 international ss's. Iglesias and Navarro.
And there's also Casey Kelley who may or may not end up as a ss.

That's one of the reasons why I say LaRoche plays well when it no longer matters. In 06, I'm not sure what position the Braves were in, but in 07 and 08, the Pirates were well out of the race then. One other thing to look at with LaRoche is, since his big year in 06, his numbers have gone down.

Maybe being in Pittsburgh and being looked at as the power hitter may have gotten to him. In Boston, he won;t have to deal with that. Could help.

Can any of you give me a run down on the prospects the Buccos got today?

Here's a good site for ya timd, http://soxprospects.com/

just search the prospects. The ss has an amazing glove. And the pitcher is a 20 year old man/child.

Diaz should be in Pittsburgh relatively soon, atleast see some time next year. He's an ace with the glove.. Think an Alex (non-ped)Gonzalez-lite.

The pitcher, I have no clue.

Thanks CC for the site. As for Diaz, just reading up on him, when Wilson gets dealt by the deadline, Diaz should take his place. Ramon Vazquez at SS would be stupid and Brian Bixler is awful.

Well, obviously (hopefully) there is going to be another deal to follow. I would be surprised with a straight out release of Kotsay and theo sais he's done. So this is what I think they will do, pitch Bucholz tonight. Option him back to Pawtucket. Then you have 5 days to figure out a deal before buch needs to come back up and start.

Return to Boston Red Sox
