Dempster moving to rotation

Post#1 » by treyZz » Sun May 20, 2007 11:09 pm

He just said it on the post game show.

Marmol/Guzman most likely the closer. Though they haven't said anything.

I was all for this when Baker was still manager. Wood was the candadite back then to close, and by his performence at the end of the season coming into games pitching one inning, it would've worked then. It will work now, we have two hopefuls for closer in Marmol and Guzman. Lightning quick fastballs, with filthy breakers; the only two pitches a closer will ever need.

Location will be in question, but I think both of these pitchers see this as an oppurtunity and the competition will drive them both.

Dempster was a good starter in Cincinnati. I think he won rookie of the year while starting there.

Is this for real? So Dempster will be our fifth starter now?

wow, I guess Lou's not kidding around when he said he's going to be making some changes to our bullpen.

Now if only we can get some decent set up men. Cotts sucks. Eyre and Howry are average.
Bosh has trademarked the name Homo Ostrich in order to prevent announcers and fans from using it to describe his game.

"Ryan Dempster moved from closer to starter back to closer in a 20-minute span Sunday, capping off one of the most bizarre days in his nine-year career."

The Cubs are asking him to mentor Angel Guzman, who left the rotation and is the front-runner to replace Dempster.

I never knew you guys down south were so desperate. $300 million just for a winning season? Oh please. We Brewers are in first place, and have like half your payroll. Gonna blame it on Bartman and the goat again huh? What a shame.

Just a little payback after all those years we had to deal with Cub trolls on other Brewer forums.

Yeah but we are RealGM not other Cubs forums. Have we went into your board on RealGM and stirred up anything yet? Cubs fans are pretty classy here so far.

So in the meantime, whose our 5th starter? I assume Dempster will take the role once Guzman is given the closer reigns, but until then I'm guessing either Marmol or Marshall will get some starts.

Yeah I think one of Dempster's first starts will be May 28 which is the game I am going to.

UPDATES
Dempster still the Cubs' closer
http://www.dailyherald.com/sports/story.asp?id=314797
Dempster then went upstairs to Piniella's office, and when he emerged, he had another announcement.

"April fools," he said. "We just kind of talked about things. For right now, I'm going to go back down there and close. He (Piniella) knows that I'd like to start eventually in the future.

"It might happen this year. It might happen next year. Who knows? For the best for our team right now, given the situation, you'd be asking guys who have never done it before on a pretty big stage to go out there and close."

The Yankees, who are looking for a starter, may be interested in acquiring Dempster, but Dempster said he hopes to stay with the Cubs. A trade, he said, "is the furthest thing from my mind."

"They've been very up-front with me," he said. "I love the city of Chicago and I love playing for the Cubs. That's what I'm here to do."
