Its amazing that Wemby has quickly fallen off the map just fast as what he started with a bang. I blame it 50/50 between him and the Spurs. They just let him do whatever. Would be quite embarrassing for monumental prospect like him to not win ROTY which is still possibility.

I think the roster is horrible but I also think they're tanking. Pops substitution patterns make no sense at times, for instance he takes Victor out midway through the 4th, they've had a few games they were up when he's done that only to bring Victor back with 3-4 minutes left and they're now losing. Also, the biggest clue to them just punting on these games is that Pop refuses to start Jones, someone that started 65 games for them last season, they insist on playing without a PG. They looked terrible last night with Sochan removed from the starting lineup but only to be replaced by Osman.
Jones isn't going to make them world beaters but he's at least a PG. Also, they need to stop babying Victor, if Chet can play center so can he, the most effective lineup for them would probably have Jones, Vassell, Johnson, Sochan and Victor. The Collins starting thing is every bit of a failure as Sochan at PG, all you're doing is hurting your own floor balance with the two bigs on offense, and you're removing Victors biggest strength of rim protection by making him defend mostly stretch 4s who are camped out at the 3 line.

Doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things though does it.
Also he's leading all rookies in most statistical categories.

You're making it sound like he's a bust. LOL.
The Spurs are fine, the Spurs will be fine. Should be playoff contenders in 3-4 years so they are on pace despite what their record is this year and next.

Early on their was absurd hype after a few games of Wemby going against some of the worst defending bigs in the league.
I think we now see what we have with Wemby, he's not all star this year, not all NBA this year but he is a going to be a great player for the Spurs.
Porzingis is a good comp, I think he's 80% likely to be better than Porzingis offensively.

Wemby might regret not wanting to join the rockets.
Imagine a team with
Sengun
Wemby
Brooks
Green
FVV
With Udoka (young Pop) coaching. That team would be downright scary now and in the future.

I'm talking about at the lottery where he was relieved when Houston didn't get the first pick

what's really shocking is how nobody cares that Popovich is once again shamelessly tanking. It's even more egregious this time because they actually have enough talent to fight for a play-in at minimum but they're actively trying to lose. It's a really bad look. He's a generational talent and should be showcased rather than become an afterthought two months into his rookie season.

Pple keep saying this trying to speak it into existence lol. So far he’s an inefficient giant. Every time i watch him he is going 4-13. At this very moment Chet is the better player and prospect. Pump the brakes on generational talk just cuz he’s tall with a loose handle and shaky jumper

His pumpers live in a different universe. First the team is "tanking", obviously, but also Wemby doesn't look better because he has the "worst teammates in the league". So which is it, bad teammates or purposely losing games?
Also the nerve to say he's not being showcased when he's allowed to shoot whenever he wants despite horrible efficiency, lol

Contenders to make the playoffs? Or playoff contenders i.e a serious chance to win the playoffs? Probably yes to the former, but claiming the latter is laughable

Huh? He hasn't "fallen off the map" You just haven't heard much in the last week because from 12/1 to now, SA had only played 2 games and Wemby missed one of them and had a quiet night in the other. All the focus right now is on the IST

How is that laughable? The Cavs/Wolves/Warriors were the last 3 teams in the conference 4 years ago and since then one has one a ring, one has traded for a star and made themselves relevant again, and the other is #1 in their conference right now. Similar in 2021, the Thunder/Magic/Rockets were 3 of the 4 bottom teams in the league and 3 years later all of them look legit and the Thunder are on trajectory to be a championship contender. Shoot, just 2-3 years ago you were so certain of an impending Brooklyn Dynasty and how did that turn out?
Point is, trying to project out 4 years and acting like you know for certain how a team will look at that point is just silly. None of us know the future. The only thing that is laughable is your take tbh

People have gotten that idea, that the Spurs are really better than their record, but it isn’t true. The Spurs’ roster is very weak.
Zach Collins has turned into roadkill on defense, and his 3pt shooting has deserted him. He cannot hold his own on either end of the floor, in most games.
Keldon Johnson is an average NBA player on offense, and worse than average on defense.
Jeremy Sochan is shooting a much better percentage from 3 this season, on a low volume of 2.2 attempts per game, but he has otherwise regressed somewhat from last season. His 2pt percentage is down substantially, and his defense has not improved. Blame it on the point guard experiment, sophomore slump, or whatever, he hasn’t shown progress, and he is arguably worse overall than during his rookie season.
Devin Vassell is a good shooting guard.
Well, not to go through the whole laundry list, but the Spurs have only two legit NBA starters at this time, Keldon and Vassell, to put on the floor with Victor, and neither Keldon nor Vassell is much of a playmaker. The other Spurs players are marginal, or bench players, or G leaguers. So no, they do not have enough talent even to make the play-in.
What you’re seeing from the Spurs is all they’ve got.

He should be the better player right now, he's older and has a year of being on an NBA roster under his belt, in no way shape or form is he a better prospect though.

To add to this. Spurs this year are arguably the worst team in the league and worse then last year.
Last year:
110.2 ORTG (29th)
120 DRTG (30th)
-9.8 Net RTG (30th)
This year:
107.2 ORTG (28th)
119 DRTG (25th)
-11.8 Net RTG (worst in the league...Detroit is 2nd worst @ -9.2 )
Spurs legitimately might be WORSE then their record indicates. They have a net rating almost 3 points worse then Detroit for crying out loud.

Wemby started at C for this game.
20 rebounds, 4 blocks, 1 turnover with 4 assists.
Took only 3 3s..
C is his best spot.
