Re: 2012 Minor Leagues/Prospect Discussion Thread
I would say to express caution with Hech, as he strikes out 24% of the time and his BABIP is .619 (So that means for every ball he puts in play, he is getting on base 61.9% of the time). This is partly due to his insanely good LD% but some regression is expected.
He has been better than expected and likely will finish the year with a very good slash line.

Even more impressive is that Carreno threw five innings of one hit ball.... at Colorado Springs no less
His line was 5IP, 1H, 2BB, 8K, 4:1 GO:FO

d'Arnaud 2-4 with 2 doubles and 2 walks.
If there was any doubt before the season, it's getting clearer by the day that d'Arnaud is the much better catcher. He has the power and the plate discipline, the latter being something JP is sorely lacking. And that's not even counting the defense, where scouts say d'Arnaud has the leg up. If JP is still stinking the joint up come June-July, I wouldn't be surprised in the leas to see d'Arnaud up here.

Nick Nurse recounting his first meeting with Kawhi:
“We could have gone forever. (Raptors management) kept knocking on the door and I was like, ‘A couple more minutes.’ Because we were really into it."

Maybe, back-end. More angles than stuff. RT @Dallard_: @Kevin_Goldstein Sean Nolin, potential big league starter? Kinda came out of nowhere.

Inflated PCL numbers aside, the one thing that really sticks out is how much his LD% has skyrocketed... Some of that is probably related to where he is playing, but it does me give me some optimism that he is figuring how to drive the ball more consistently

It's all about whether his velocity returns. Don't see him being that useful if he can't at least hit 90 mph
and keeps the ball down. His margin for error is so small with his weak stuff right now

Jays’ farmhand Travis Snider tears it up at Las Vegas
http://sports.nationalpost.com/2012/04/ ... las-vegas/
They told Travis Snider the battle for left field would continue, even though he lost Round 1. On Friday night, he issued a resounding reminder that he remains a contender.
The Toronto Blue Jays farmhand had a grand-slam homer, a double and two singles and drove in five runs for Triple-A Las Vegas in a 14-0 win over Colorado Springs.
In his first seven games at Triple-A, Snider is batting .438 (14-for-32) with four doubles, three homers and a league-leading 14 RBIs. He has an on-base percentage of .486 and a slugging percentage of .844.
Reflecting the fact that the Pacific Coast League is a notorious hitters’ circuit, Snider’s average, OPS and slugging percentage do not even lead the league. As a team, Las Vegas is batting .308, which ranks fifth in the league.
Entering spring training, the Blue Jays announced that Snider would compete with Eric Thames for the left-field job. In the same breath, they essentially said Thames would have to fall flat on his face to lose the job because he was the incumbent at the end of last season.
Both enjoyed productive springs. Thames hit .359 with a .408 OBP, while Snider hit .271 with a .340 OBP and led the team with 16 RBIs.
So, as expected, Thames stayed and Snider went to Vegas, where he has prospered. Thames, meanwhile, has struggled at the plate, along with the rest of the Toronto offence through the first seven games. Thames is 5-for-22 (all singles), good for a .227 batting average and a .292 OBP.

pcl inflates stats, we know for a fact that snider ripped the ball when he was in AAA and AA, but he couldn't equal that feat in the majors. hope this time around it works out for him, cannot stand thames.

Not sure if this has been posted before, but here is a good article where Syndergaard talks about / grades his pitches:

Re: 2012 Minor Leagues/Prospect Discussion Thread
Sam Dyson had another solid outing yesterday... 5IP, 3H, 0BB and 4K.
He's yet to walk a batter through his first 11IP.
Justin Jackson continued his hot start with another couple of hits and a walk... SSS and all, but his strikeout rate is way down and he seems to be making solid contact as his LD% is up significantly.

Yeah, my mancrush on Jackson is threatening to grow again. If nothing else, he could have the makings of a pretty good utility player.
Hutch with a solid if unspectacular start: 5.2 IP, 5 hits, 2 ER including a solo HR, 6:1 K:BB.
**** your asterisk.

That's what I was having in mind also.... he's spent time basically everywhere but first and catcher, so if he could handle the bat decently enough, he could be a useful super utility kind of guy.
I wonder if Hutch started to tire a bit from not really being stretched this far out yet... his line looked alot nicer until the last two batters he faced, which were a homer and line drive single... Through the first five innings, it was three singles, two of which were grounders and a bunt...
Good to see the strikeouts back after the odd last outing

Jon Berti looking nice so far in Lansing. Good SO:BB ratio and has amazing speed and solid contact.

Re: 2012 Minor Leagues/Prospect Discussion Thread
I really like the idea of having Evan Crawford, Perez & Cecil in the bullpen next year as lefties. 2 lefties is a nice balance, but 3 is a downright luxury.
A future bullpen of:
Santos
Janssen/Careno/Villaneuva
Perez/Cecil/Crawford
is so balanced and young that it could set us up for years.
