Wizards Sign Martell Webster
Have at it.
I love the signing. Hopefully he can stay healthy. This should mean we'll be seeing a lot less Chris Singleton and possibly Jordan Crawford, both of which are A OK by me.

Just hope he's healthy and that they didn't sign him for more than 1-year. I hope this doesn't mean that Martin will be cut, they really don't need him now.

I'm not going to dissect it. It's a good move and hopefully he can stay healthy.

My guess is this means little to nothing for any current Wizards. Webster has a long way to go to prove he can play in the NBA. H has had two major injuries but was at one point a hot enough prospect that Portland passed on the chance to draft CP3 and Deron Williams to take him (whoops!). His "past pedigree" and relative youth make Ernie think he has big upside. More likely, this is Yi 2.0.

I agree that this isn't a game changer.
However I think unlike Yi who cost $4 million in cap space, all Webster is using is a roster space.

I don't know how you compare a 25-year old Webster to a 7-foot jumpshooting stiff. Webster is recovering from back surgery so if he's healthy, he can play a little. They aren't asking him to be Ray Allen.

Why not? What evidence do we have that Webster can even play a little?
And he's coming off of back surgery? He wasn't any good when his back was healthy!
Webster is a waste of a roster spot. My only real hope is that he doesn't take a roster spot from Cartier Martin, because honestly, Martin is the better shooter and a more proven commodity.

If he can stay healthy he's a great pickup.
In his career he's averaging 37% from 3. He'll be a good shooter to come off the bench next year.

Thankfully our medical staff checked him out before we offered him the contract. The same staff that examined Josh Howard

And he's 6'7" and can play guard or forward. Take away the health issues and he's Cartier Martin.

I think it's a pretty good signing, assuming it's a 1 year deal. It's not like there's a ton of rotation-caliber players itching to sign a low salary contract to play in Washington behind Beal, Crawford and Ariza (not to mention Martin and Singleton).
I don't know the extent of his back issues, but if he plays like he did two seasons ago in Minnesota, he'll be good for 15 points and 5 boards per 36 with a TS% of .575 and a 3P% of .417. Those are better numbers across the board than Cartier Martin, and he did it over a longer portion of the season.

A one year deal for a 25-year old that shot 42% from 3 two seasons ago? Not bad. Witt can give extra minutes whichever one of Ariza, Webster, or Singleton decides to bring their jumper that night.
Always remember, my friend: the world will change again. And you may have to come back through everywhere you've been.

Sorry Martin, you're obviously caught in a Booker-type situation.

Re: Wizards Sign Martell Webster
So how does everyone like the new 2012/13 Wizards??
I'd be surpised if they sign anyone else. At 14 and I expect it to be what they go into the season with. If nothing else this team should be good defensively. It really is quite a change from the Eddie Jordan and "The Big 3" years.
Wall, Price, Mack, Crawford, Beal, Webster, Martin, Ariza, Singleton, Booker, Vesely, Nene, Seraphin, Okafor.

Like the signing. He fits in with this roster. When he had Roy and Aldridge to play off of he was stroking it. Wall and Nene are going to create some open looks. Webster is more dependable on offense than any of the projected bench players at the wing positions.

Defiantly room for them to upgrades the roster this year or next.
Price, Mack, Martin, Webster. These players are being given a chance to prove they can step it up but they have 10 players who should get the bulk of the minutes.
Wall, Crawford, Beal, Ariza, Singleton, Booker, Vesely, Nene, Seraphin, Okafor
When you trim it to who will be mostly play, the roster looks better.
Some Webster video about the recovery. He looks alright and sounds like he gets it. Clearly Martin competition and that is ok. Martin is so sure thing. I still would like to see Livingston added and Mack cut.
