Glad Smart had a nice shooting performance, his slump the past few games was worrying
Also I'm 99% sure we pick a point guard. Jameer gets injured all the time and after him it's literally JJ as the next best option. We're in dire need of someone to handle the ball.

A point guard would definitely be nice. Marcus Smart looks like a pretty good floor general.

I feel largely the same way. Unless we trade BBD, which is possible but unlikely, I think we begin next season with Vucevic/Davis once again. Harkless is all the youth and potential we probably need at SF for the time being (especially with Hedo under contract for his final season).
PG (with little depth behind the oft-injured Nelson) and SG (with Redick expiring and Afflalo a potential trade asset) are our two priorities on draft night. I see us taking someone who plays one position or the other (or possibly a combo guard, which Smart qualifies as at this point in his development).
Marcus Smart remains my top pick, and I like (but don't love) McCollum at the 1 position as well. If we climb a bit more, I'd love to snag Zeller at Pick #5, but for the time being and until our record changes, that's still a reach.
I'd also love to find ourselves with a second, mid-round pick after the trade deadline, and to somehow find Smart available at that selection. I still maintain that Smart will skyrocket during pre-draft workouts, however. After this recent slump he is currently projected anywhere from #6 (NBAdraft.net) to #22 (DraftExpress). It may be wise not to mess around---again, I do think he's a very good fit for this team. Zeller and Smart. That'd be a coup.

Yup if we want Smart we need to be happy with each and every loss. I know I am.

If we go point guard I would much rather get McW, Marcus Smart is to much of a combo guard and to me more of a 2 guard.

I'm not sure how I feel about Smart. He seems like he's got a unique skill set, but seems a bit like a career back up.
Granted, I've only watched highlights. I should watch a full game before fully judging him.

MCW is a great talent but I heard his character is questionable, stealing and not admitting his actions.I know that report got swept under the rug but It's the principal Smokey

Re: Official Draft Thread: Prospects Watch
Trey Burke is my number one PG still, but if Smart continues to show growth in his playmaking & proving that he can be a legit PG (which he is not yet) he will def move up.
Don't want a combo at the point though.

Re: Official Draft Thread: Prospects Watch
Got this off another board:
One of these is Chris Paul his Soph yr. The other is the current Trey Burke. I'll let you guess which one is which. Of course it's not a great comparison considering that they're numbers over the course of a college season vs numbers compiled over the course of 13 games, but it should give you an idea of just how epic of a season Burke is having so far.
6'0, 6'4 wingspan. CP3
PPG/40- 18.3
AST/40- 7.9
STL/40- 2.8
TO/40- 3.3
A/T- 2.4
TS- 60%
PPP (points per possession)- 1.13
WS/40- 10.3
EFF Rtng/40- 23.5
PER- 24.7
6'0, 6'5 wingspan. BURKE
PPG/40- 21.1
AST/40- 8.8
STL/40- 1.4
TO/40- 2.0
A/T- 4.4
TS- 63%
PPP (points per possession)- 1.27
WS/40- 11.1
EFF Rtng/40- 25.7
PER- 32.8

Combo point guards are du jour in this league. Rose, Westbrook, Holiday, Lillard, Curry, Kyrie, etc. I think Smart would be just fine at point guard.

Re: Official Draft Thread: Prospects Watch
Smart and MCW fit better with the roster, with Nelson.
Burke is better, and I love him but he doesnt fit well unless Jameer got traded, and I don't see it right now.
Burke is going to be a top10 lock by June, youll see.
For Orlando there 3 candidates, Smart, MCW and Goodwin.

Yea, but IMO Meer will be heading to the bench (if not traded) next year. We need to develop young players & guys like Burke, Smart, & MCW should be getting PLENTY of PT if drafted in the first round.
If the Magic keep losing my top 5 (for the Magic) as of now are:
McLemore
Goodwin
Burke
Smart
Poythress
Especially with eyes on a guy like Wiggins
If we lose we lose, at least guys will get PT & we have a shot at drafting a CORNERSTONE in 2014
Burke
Wiggins
Harkless
Nicholson
Vucevic
That would be a fun young starting 5

The only combo on that list is Curry and Westbrook the rest are point guards who can slash and take shots. To me Smart is a lot like a Wade or Dion Waiters a short slashing two guard.

Watching Smart I DEF agree with the Waiters comparison.
Dude is gonna be a lottery regardless, but unless he improves his shooting & playmaking ability (for others) there will continue to be a question mark.
Shooting 38% from the field 28% from 3 with 5 assists to 3 TOs a game.
I def expect him to get better & better throughout the year.
