Knicks / Lakers: For All Intents and Purposes
Knicks send:
Tyson Chandler
Carmelo Anthony
2015 Knicks 1st (top 20 protected)
Lakers send:
Steve Nash
Pau Gasol
Steve Blake
Jordan Hill
2014 Lakers 1st unprotected
Its all about trading for players that you plan to have all along.
Tyson Chandler is injured and the Knicks would need 4-6 weeks till he comes back. The Lakers send you an older Pau Gasol that would man the Center slot as well as high-energy (and returnee) Jordan Hill who functions like Tyson Chandler if given the right minutes and opportunities. On top of this one, the Knicks would have cap space for 2014 (of around 8 million-ish) less the salary of the 2014 1st round pick from LA.
Speaking of LA's 2014 1st rounder, there's a possibility of it being in the lottery. That becomes the Knicks' consolation prize in case it doesn't work out for both teams. If the Knicks still aren't that good come 2015, they have their own pick sent in the deal in protection.
The Lakers would have to sustain playing without Chandler for 4-6 weeks. Chris Kaman stands out as the team's starting center (I cringe at the thought, although he's been playing really well lately) and backing up is (drumroll please) Robert Sacre.
Lakers:
PG: Jordan Farmar / X / X
SG: Xavier Henry / Jodie Meeks / Kobe Bryant*
SF: Nick Young / Wesley Johnson / Elias Harris
PF: Carmelo Anthony / Shawne Williams / Ryan Kelly
CE: Chris Kaman / Robert Sacre / Tyson Chandler*
Knicks:
PG: Ray Felton / Steve Nash / Steve Blake /
SG: Iman Shumpert / Pablo Prigioni /
SF: JR Smith / Metta World Peace
PF: Jordan Hill / Amare Steoudemire / Kenyon Martin
CE: Pau Gasol / Andrea Bargnani
Tyson Chandler
Carmelo Anthony
2015 Knicks 1st (top 20 protected)

Wait so the Knicks trade Melo, AND Chandler, AND a 1st round pick (which would have to be in 2018) for Steve Nash and Pau Gasol. LOL.

No, I think he hit the nail right on the head.
Nothing in the Lakers' package is even remotely worth the Knicks giving up Carmelo, let alone adding in Chandler and a pick on top. Nash and Blake are negative-value players. Pau is aging and expensive. And to top it all off, you can't legally trade your 2014 1st rounder without getting a 2014 1st rounder back per the Stepian rule, since you owe your 2015 1st to Phoenix.
This is a laughable offer for NY, top-to-bottom.

Maybe you should check draft details before you go around trading picks that teams can't legally trade at all.
Also, if your trade includes Carmelo Anthony, then your trade justification should probably, you know, mention Carmelo Anthony somewhere. He's sort of important.

We have a contender here for worst trade in board history. First off it is absurdly, insanely, unquestionably bad for New York, and then to cap it off, LA can't even trade their 2014 1st unless they are getting back an unprotected 2014 or 2015 1st which they aren't getting here, so to make matters worse, the trade is illegal.

No. Your trade is just laughably terrible.

Re: Knicks / Lakers: For All Intents and Purposes
Nash + Hill for Chandler makes some sense. Both 2 years remaining, but Chandlers health issues seem to require actual broken bones, while Nash's are more of a broken body variety. You're more likely to get more out of Chandler the next two years than Nash, but you'll also have to pay about $4m more per year.
Since the picks can't legally be swapped (and, either way, the Knicks shouldn't have to give up a 1st in this either way), it then comes down to Melo for Gasol and Blake. It just makes no sense.
If you want to approach something like this, then man up, and offer to take on Amare instead of Chandler, and throw the picks out. At least you may then be close. Otherwise, wait until free agency and hope for the best.

How does Nash and Hill for Chandler make sense for the Knicks? It doesn't get them under the cap or the tax, it doesn't make them better short term, and they don't get any assets long term. Horrible, horrible trade for the Knicks.

So the knicks give up and top 5 SF, top 5 center for a 40 yr old steve nash, Paul gasol. How on earth is this remotely even possible is beyond all thinking.. And you say for the knicks its the lakers pk which should be the prize... Why so carmelo anthony could join Kobe and chandler when they come back to make a run for the championship while the knicks end up with a pk in the 20's

I kinda thought the opposite - that something along the lines of Pau for Chandler might make some sense. NY needs a big now, while LA can afford to let Chandler heal since their focus is the next 2-3 years. LA would have to abandon their cap space dreams, but it's questionable how realistic those are in the first place.

I dunno about that...the worst trade ever in my mind comes from way back in 2007ish, when someone proposed the Heat trade D-Wade to the Lakers for Devean George, because the Heat "owed" the Lakers for trading them Shaq and helping them win a championship.
