Are You Confident In Wizards Management?
Just would like to get a feel for everyones thoughts about Wizards management and the winning competitive environment that Ted, Ernie and Tommy has done to turn this team around. To go from being regarded as one of the worst GM's in the league to one of the top most improved is a daunting task and leave many eating crow. This is now a destination for free agents, the team is young and inspired and feel like they can come out of the East.

The players are confident because management is confident. So are the fans confident?

Re: Are You Confident In Wizards Management?
I'd have to say I'm more confident than in year's past but this is the same GM that took Jan Vesely in the top 10 and signed Eric Maynor to the LLE when guys like Nate Robinson were still available (although if EG had signed Maynor to the minimum, I don't think many would have been as upset until they saw him play).
- The Gortat trade appears to have worked out, if Hibbert regresses again and if Drummond's BBIQ doesn't improve- Gortat might be the best center in the East.
- John Wall looks like he's worth a max contract- although he still needs to improve his ball handling and perimeter shooting
- The Wizards did well by trading McGee for Nene- McGee even now still has a lot of potential but his low basketball IQ- although I understand the concerns of Nene's contract
- Jordan Crawford was not that good and is heading to China and the Wizards were fortunate to dump his salary
- Glen Rice Jr. might be a steal, Otto could still play well given last night's performance
- The Wizards got value with the #3 pick in Beal- could have been worse if we were and had taken someone like Waiters
- Beal could be a stud- needs to become more consistent though
- Andre Miller looks like a competent point guard
- The win now strategy has brought over vets that could contribute now like Pierce
Of course there are doubts
- The Wizards run an offense that wants mid range jumpers and how come Wall/Beal have been terrible in making them.
- Free throw shooting of guys like Nene is concerning considering he's a fairly good mid-range shooter.
- It doesn't seem like the Wizards have specialists like a free throw shooting coach like Dave Hopla
- Age is a concern, can Nene play productively until the end of his contract? What about Miller and Pierce and Gooden to a lesser extent?
- Why did the Wizards bring back Seraphin? I guess aside from the money they still think he has upside
For now, I am more confident than not but that's perhaps because it's the offseason and we play in the Eastern Conference.

You make some valid arguments. It was unfortunate the Maynor trade didn't work out better. But there are also some valid reasons why a GM may not pursue a player that fans may push for. Management has inside information that fans don't. Perhaps a certain player is a bad fit in the locker room or has personality/conduct issues or has made it clear secretly to agents where they would and would not like to end up. Also, money can be a factor.
I believe that with the additions at the center and power forward positions we've acquired, this will decrease the wear and tear of a long season on guys like Pierce and Nene. They will benefit from a rotation of fresh contributors.
I do agree that free throw shooting is very important and this team has lost some games because of it in the past.

No, one semi decent offseason doesn't cover up for a decade long of anal-fisting whatever hopes I had for this team.

I agree wholeheartedly with the sentiment. It's been a long, lonely road being a Wizards fan, let alone one out of the area since '99.
But I also long for the day when we stop comparing "things we don't like" (e.g., our favorite sports team not performing to expectations) to nonconsensual sex acts. My $.02.
Always remember, my friend: the world will change again. And you may have to come back through everywhere you've been.

Short answer, no. They regained a little of my trust this off season, since for the first time it seemed like they actually had a coherent plan. Ask me again in two years.

I think it's tough to argue against the positive effects of the rebuild process.
1.) We cleaned out the knuckle heads for high quality players (A-3Za, Okafor and Nene).
2.) We have drafted a solid young core of players surrounded by strong veteran leadership
3.) The growing process has produced fruits to harvest
4.) Second round of the playoffs in 2013/14
5.) Attracting "The Truth" to play in DC
6.) 2014 Off season acquisition of players for the second team, deeper in scoring and rebounding
7.) D-League development of Glen Rice
8.) Playing on Christmas
9.) More nationally televised games - A reflection of player development by management
10.) Players support and stand behind the coach. Regardless of what the anti-Wizards fans say on this board.
11.) Becoming relevant in the NBA "having direct bearing on the matter in hand; pertinent"
These are all clear improvements created by management and we are clearly moving in a winning direction.
H8 on that ya'll. We are going 50+ this year!

Yep. Makes it a moot point to answer this.
I generally like what they've done the last 1-2 years. I definitely don't love what they've done and I hate the way they low bid Ariza. I think they're going to get to round two of the playoffs again, most likely; perhaps farther.
Yet, I voted they'll only get 42 wins and be a 7th seed. So, I have no idea about Wizards' management or what will actually happen moving forward other than Ernie's gonna keep getting paid.
Bye bye Beal.

Re: Are You Confident In Wizards Management?
I'm pretty much confident. I think Ted, Ernie, and Randy have good chemistry and are on the same page though individually, they are not great in their roles. They fall in the "good at almost everything, master of none" category.
Free agency and top 3 picks have been successful. Let's wait and see how Ernie drafts outside of the lottery, where the right choices aren't as obvious.
I like Witt as a coach even though he is not a high profile coach.
Ted is decent. Les Boulez had been a laughingstock for the better part of 30 years. It's a positive culture change. Now they are obviously establishing an identity, DC Bad Boys instead of the Washington Generals or the Clippers East(when the Clippers were a laughingstock).

Being a Washington sports fan for the last quarter century has conditioned us to view our sports teams with an overwhelming sense of negativity.
All of the promise of the Capitals = nothing
All of the current promise of the Nationals = nothing
Redskins? Let's just not even go there
The Wizards have given us reason to hope, but we're all looking at each other waiting for Lucy to pull the ball from us right when we're about to kick it.
Sustained success will go a long way toward building confidence.

Re: Are You Confident In Wizards Management?
Until this summer I though Management was a bunch of morons...now I'm undecided. I don't think they improved the team. I think they deepened the bench, but does that really win in the post season?
I think they are lucky. WIth the new CBA, Gortat and Wall's deals are going to look like steals, when the salary cap almost doubles. Is Wall's deal a % of the cap or a straight money figure?
I hope this team improves, but I really don't know.

Re: Are You Confident In Wizards Management?
Millie, for whom confidence in Ernie and Ted seems to precede actually knowing what's happening, writes:
"the team is young and inspired..." -- actually, we are one of the oldest teams in the league. Overall 5th oldest, I believe, but on a minutes basis possibly the oldest altogether (...tho maybe not quite that, as I haven't bothered doing the math).
"too bad the Maynor trade didn't work out." -- What Maynor trade, Millie? We signed him as a FA. I.e. we didn't take him back for someone we wanted to get rid of, we actually chose the guy over a bunch of better players. And we signed him on the first day of free agency!
Now, we didn't have as bad an off-season as last year, so I think it would be fair to say there's no reason for one's confidence in our FO to go down even more!
But none of our acquisitions were part of an attempt to *build* or continue to *re-build* the team. They were all short-term. To me at least it looks like the current "plan" is to go all in for Kevin Durant. If he doesn't sign with us, it looks kind of unlikely that we'd be able to build a championship contender w/ this generation of players.
A good GM, given the assets Ernie had and the ping pong ball luck he had, would have been able to do that. Ernie wasn't and hasn't come close. That's why confidence in him would be misplaced.
At the same time, we might still be pretty good this year -- if the old guys don't get injured (and that's a big "if") -- we're better than we used to be. Not sure how much of an achievement that is, given just how awful we used to be (a team, btw, that Ernie also "built").
