I think recruiting is more important than coaching skill in college BB if you want to be a top ten program if your coach isn't able to do both at a super high level.
Recruiting can cover up deficiencies to a point, but at some point Rick Barnes gonna Rick Barnes. John Calipari is a great recruiter, but it's equally impressive that he's been able to bring squads together knowing the heart of them will depart after a year. Can't sculpt with clay but can't shape clay without skill.
Completely agree that top recruiting is almost necessary for sustained top 10 success, but the Creightons and Butlers of the world are showing alternate routes to the hierarchy.
