Sabonis listed at 6-8 is modern combo forward, drawing some similarity to Houston's Donatas Motiejunas. He's quick on his feet, quite athletic and skilled. After dominating European Championship U16 as a clear-cut up-front player, Unicaja's coaching staff has decided to transfor him into tweener, so nothing surprisingly that in Rome Sabonis is seeing his playing time mostly at SF spot in Unicaja's packed with sized lineup.

I checked tournament stats. There are several players with amazing stats. His 17/17 line more or less losses the significants if you add contexts.
On the other hand, he is a year younger, which is huge, Especially for a bigman. He is also not overly tall, which is not exactly good, but at least we know he is not just going on those kids ala Bhullar.

Did I just read that right? 17 and 17? that's impressive, though I don't know who he's up against.

For comparison, Jonas also played in U18 euro championship while being a year younger, averaged 19pts and 10reb. The following year while playing the U18 championship and being 18yr old averaged 19pts 13reb. And Jonas was considered an elite rebounder for his age. So we can safely assume that Domantas is above elite when it comes to rebounding, while being 6-9 ft tall. Just has the knack for the ball, like Z-Bo. Also, Domantas said that he is currently developing his body strength while simultaneously playing for Malaga pro club and the national team, THAT might also be the reason for his current poor shooting percentages.

So I think Valanciunas & Sabonis frontcourt will be quite dominant for Lithuanian national team in the future.

Here you go for some video evidence. These are full games that were played about 2 weeks ago in Lithuania's preparation for the championship. The opponents were strong. Sabonis is number 11.

Vs Croatia

Vs Latvia

Also, the player worth keeping an eye on for Latvia is number 6 Kristaps Porzingis, aka 7 feet Dirk wannabe. For Croatia, the interesting player is number 14 Lovro Mazalin, having a good game while being two years younger.

His body is very well developed for a 17 year old, Bosh comparison would never come to my mind. He imitates his fathers passing, which is kinda funny. Light on his feet, wouldn't guess hes a big. Yeah, he looks good, though Jonas looked better in my opinion, much better. I probably thinking about 18 year old Jonas, this guy has time to catch up.

P.S. Sometimes I wonder, what would be like if Lithuania had US level high school basketball program...

Valanciunas
Motiejunas
D.Sabonis
M.Pocius (former duke player)
M.Kalnietis

Would be top starting 5 in Europe or even in the world...

You don't put Sabonis at SF. You just don't. He's already 6-10 or 6-11 and has no 3 point shot. I really doubt he'd be able to guard faster small forwards. He'll definitely develop into a fine, NBA caliber PF or even C though.

You are correct on main part, but he is no way 6'10. Looks like 6'8 - 6'9 at best (they do mentioned hes 6'9). Obviously not done growing. Looks like he can defend SF for now, easily. But he has no offesnive perimeter skills.

In theory, that frontline could work, maybe. If D-Mo develops real 3 point shot, he could space the floor and fill the SF role offensively. May not be wise to have 3 ~seven footers, but it would be amusing. Very unlikely scenario of course, you all know I hate D-Mo to begin with, he is the new Bargs on the dot.

He doesn't waste clock like Chris Bosh. Very decisive and bright player. Looks to me like he's closer to 6"8-6"9.

I can understand it - Sabonis seems quicker than Motiejunas or Jonas and he certainly has better dribbling than eiuther of the two, but yeah - he is a PF or if he gets his father growth spurts - center.

Remember that Sabonis (father) was playing as a PG unril 16 years and then he started getting massive growth spurts that pulled him to a huge center which was what made him so unique - had the skillset of a PG in centers body.

Sabonis Jr doesnt seem to be as skilled as his father but nevertheless one of the better prospects coming from Europe right now.
