Well we can't say that the Knicks aren't doing their due diligence.

They aren't leaving any stones uncovered!

I'm guessing the criteria to get a workout with the Knicks is to have a youtube clip floating around out there...

Tyrus Thomas has to be feeling pretty darn low.

I really don't think I could stomach having a guy with no muscle definition on our roster again. I really don't.

Unless May has really really gotten himself into shape, Tyrus Thomas honestly would make more sense right now since, if nothing else, you can use Thomas to chase the other teams athletic forwards around a bit and provide the other Knick bigs a practice dummy so that they can chase around.

Yeah man, his numbers are solid for Paris-Levallois, but that would translate into exactly nothing here. Funny note is Jawad Williams is his running mate there.

moocow007 wrote:Speaking of Sean May...made me think about the other "big boned" (PC) guys that have, at one time or other, played in the NBA. Here's what some of them are up to...

Oliver Miller - Miller was an extremely skilled...and mobile...big that could shoot, pass and rebound. For a guy that weighed around 360-370lbs (only 6'9") he was extremely light on his feet and very agile. Drop steps, hook shots, face up, back to the basket, he was able to do a bit of everything during the 90's. Since his playing days, Miller has been arrested and charged with assault and weapons possession (for an altercation at a BBQ cookout...no joke) and sentenced to a year in jail.

Derrick Coleman - Coleman is a light weight compared to the rest of these guys but towards the end of his career his girth was a growing issue (pardon the pun). DC was probably one of, if not the, most talented PF's in the NBA when he first entered the league, but lack of focus, maturity and success eventually doomed him as much as his poor conditioning. In 2010, Coleman filed for bankruptcy despite making more than $87 million throughout his NBA career and had his home and most of the contents of it auctioned off to pay his debts.

Jerome James - "Big Snacks" is probably among the most infamous and ridiculed names on the tongues of most Knick fans. The poster child for cashing in if you just try hard at the right time, James spent a couple years away from the game after being dumped by the Bulls before the 2009-2010 playoffs but came back last season to play briefly for a team in the Puerto Rican league where averaged 9/7 shooting just 43% from the field.

Shawn Kemp - one of the most athletic and imposing PF's of is generation, Kemp battled substance...and food...abuse throughout the later part of his career. Near the end the once svelt and lean Kemp was replaced by a lumbering and round 300+lb version. Kemp leaving the NBA in 2003, Kemp has attempted (and failed) several attempts to come back into the league and has been arrested for cocaine and gun possession. Currently runs a sports bar in Seattle.

Robert Traylor - originally drafted by the Dallas Mavericks, the "Tractor" has the claim to fame of having his draft rights traded on draft night for the draft rights to Dirk Nowitzki (AND Pat Garrity) in perhaps the most lopsided deal in NBA draft history. Traylor really didn't have a productive or long career and was hampered by failing health which included a degenerative aorta. After the NBA Traylor bounced around Italy and Puerto Rico (where he was voted as that leagues 2010 Defensive Player of the Year). Traylor was found dead in his apartment in PR in 2011, a result of an apparent heart attack while talking to his wife on the phone.

Mike Sweetney - Drafted 9th overall by the Knicks in the 2003 NBA draft, Sweetney was one of the best post scorers coming out of Georgetown that year. Had some brief glimpses of success, but his mild manner and (extremely) poor conditioning habits soon made him a draft flub. Traded to the Bulls in the Eddy Curry trade, Sweetney saw his weight balloon up to 350lbs (which, for a 6'8" player was a clear path for an early exit). Sweetney attempted a comeback of sorts with Boston but it was a failure. He's currently playing in Puerto Rican basketball league for team Bayamon.

Eddy Curry - we all know the deal with Curry, great talent, no desire (except for large amounts of food). Currently doing real well for himself in China going up against guys that usually weigh 100lbs less than him.

Didn't mention the infamous Sofoklis Schortsianitis since he didnt ever play an NBA game even though he was drafted by the Clips in the 2nd round. Has had a mediocre-ish type of career in Greece and at one port reportedly tipped the 400lb barrier.

Crazy to say but players do indeed eat themselves out of the league. I also found it amusing how many of these guys ended up in the Puerto Rican league.

Agreed, and if we signed both Jawad Williams AND Sean May... they could reunite with Raymond Felton and talk about the good old days when they weren't fat and or irrelevant.

Speaking of that team...much rather Marvin than either Jawad or Sean. So next season when Marvin's contract expires they can offer him the minimum. :D
