ATL - Bledsoe signs with the Suns for 5/$70

Post#1 » by paulpressey25 » Wed Sep 24, 2014 10:08 pm

I'm going to lock the other two to clean up things a bit.

5/$70--discuss

Woj says the deal is fully guaranteed but includes no player opt-outs or ETO's.

Seems like Bledsoe got a great deal for himself.

Suns fans who kept saying "Suck it Eric, we hold all the cards" were wrong.

Suns bid against themselves. I thought the hardball offer of 4/48 would go up but not by this much.

I wonder how many of them regret that the Suns didn't take any of the trades that were offered to them for Bledsoe, now that this wound up being the contract

I would have though the last thing the Suns would want to do would be giving him 5 years.

I'm not necessarily comfortable at 5/$70 either although it really wasn't that far off from the 4/$63 I was comfortable with. The problem with what the Suns agree to is that you'll likely have a big hit of $15 to $18 million in that fifth year that will be a boat anchor if Bledsoe doesn't live up to it.

Yeah, I thought they would go up to 4/$52 mil or 4/$55 mil. Nobody else could offer Bledsoe that 5th year. Not sure why the Suns did, considering they didn't get an annual salary discount for doing so and Bledsoe has a legitimately concerning injury history.

Dragic is just salivating at this. paying 2 pgs 14+ a year is not how you build a franchise

Exactly. They went this far into the process with Bledsoe, they should have held firm against giving that 5th year.

I don't see how they resign Dragic now who will surely want the max, that's way too much money tied up at guard.

Most fans are idiots. I remember all the Nets fans talking about the leverage they had with Kidd.

Welcome to basketball purgatory, Phoenix. This is a better outcome than the QO, though, as it actually has upside.

I kept telling their fans all summer that they were ****.

And not in a taunting way, but empathic. Bledsoe is pretty parallel to us and Tim Thomas. We couldn't afford to lose TT for nothing. We couldn't afford to lose him period. And it would cause issues paying both TT and Big Dog max deals (like Dragic and Bledsoe). But paying TT just as paying Bledsoe is a big risk.

Both guys are/were unique game changing players, TT when motivated and Bledsoe when healthy.

The Suns always were going to lose this. Bledsoe's contract came up a year too soon, just at TT's did back in year 2000.

Suns fans in another board I frequent think dragic will sign for a little over 7 mil. Because he'll be 29.

Good luck to Phoenix, I think he's worth it as long as he's healthy.

Suns fans also thought Bledsoe would sign for 4/48. What do they know ?

I think he's worth it too, but I'd be concerned with what this means for the franchise in terms of their place in the West. I think they have to hope multiple cheap, young assets blow up AND a top 20 player becomes available, or they move Dragic this season.

Otherwise it's 45-50 win seasons as far as the eye can see.

Surely they can't be that clueless. Dragic will demand Max and they think he will get less than Brandon Jennings, LOL

This has a chance to be a great move for the suns, or it could be god awful by 2016.

Some of how this contract is viewed will depend on where the cap ends up in 2 or 3 years. If it's spikes way up then there's nothing wrong with paying the starting back court 14 mil a year each. I also wouldn't be shocked if Bledsoe gets traded next summer.

The "first or worst" collective attitude here is a little annoying. With or without Bledsoe the suns weren't a bottom 5 team so why I don't get the hate on them for keeping a good player. Plus a bunch of peeps here were in favor of signing him to 4 and 60 so I don't see how 5 and 70 is so shocking.

Doubt it since he'll be 29 and a 5-year vet.

He just wants more than the 7m he's getting now.

and when I called him delusional if he doesn't think dragic would want max money

What team is throwing a max deal at 29-year old Dragic who is just now blooming into an all-star that didn't want to do the same with a younger Bledsoe? They'd essentially be banking on him to have a Nash-type career pattern.
