Defensive Wing of the Year ( DWOY ) since 2006
There has been a lot of discussion on how bigs have more impact than wings on defense so I'm wondering since 2006 (when the rule changes took effect) for each year who were the best perimeter defenders at the wing positions SG/SF
Ideally they should also be starters and play over 30 minutes a game.

LeBron has a great case in 2009 and 2011 (he's right there with Artest in '09 and Deng in '11). It's amazing how good he was on defense considering how big of a burden he had to carry offensively (especially in '09).

Last two seasons Paul George should have major consideration

Certain people think tht lebrons defense vs Orlando in the ECF was sub standard, how did you feel about his defense in that series and the 2009 playoffs in a general, and of he defended better than the cavs could have won the title

He was the whole Cleveland's offense. I don't care too much if he slips a bit on defense when he's putting 38.5 ppg + 8.0 assists on 59 TS%. He couldn't do more. Cleveland was overmatched, they had no business winning 66 games to begin with.

Yeah I just don't know why it's brought up so much, it's like people say well I can't argue his offense so his defense must have been really weak and he was a liability out there. Which I think is kind of silly.
I was just wondering how his defense was that year because pre Miami I didn't see a lot of him.

He only plays 19mpg so maybe that rules him out but are we sleeping on where Thabo ranks defensively this year? His on/off defensively is killer (-6.2) and the Hawks don't have that many renowned defensive players for a top 5 D.

He should be high.
His +2.63 DRPM is the #7 best in the league for a wing player.

Didn't his defense take a sharp decline from 2012 to 2013
what happened because OKC fans were talked about how he had lost some athleticism but it looks like hes better according to your stats and what people are saying

It's hard to evaluate LeBron's defense in that series because the Cavs moved him around and he guarded pretty much every Magic player with the exception of Howard. I did track the OT period of Game 4 and posted on this board a few years ago. He guarded Lewis in that period and Lewis only had 3 touches and no shot attempts. If anyone has video of that series, I would love to go over it and evaluate LeBron's defense.

He wasn't even that good of a defender in 09, certainly not best perimeter defender in the league good.
Anyway as for that series his defense was fairly average. A lot of that was due to a bad defensive plan of hiding him on Alston with the hope of trying to help with dwight since we had no one to guard dwight. But Lebron had absolutely no impact at all on dwight.
I can't help but feel Miami Lebron would of flourished in that role considering how amazing his post season help defense was his time there.

Just a note, didn't the rule change come into effect starting in 04-05?
Anyhow, cool thread idea. I'm not sure how much confidence I have in my selections, but I'm thinking for the most part, this list should be occupied by Battier/Artest early on, followed by Deng/Iguodala/Allen (possibly still Allen), and perhaps Kawhi now.

Now that's the difference between first and last place.

Mid-playoffs bump in light of this thread (another good bump).
