Russell Westbrook

Post#1 » by BobbySura » Fri May 20, 2016 5:14 am

Anyone who has watched the NBA in the early 2000s remembers David Stern's war against...basically Allen Iverson and his "hip-hop" dress.

Image

Just an example. Baggy clothes, hats, jerseys, and chains. It was made out to be a huge deal and then the dress code came out in 2005.

...but fast forward to today...and why isn't Russell Westbrook getting the same criticism? I'm aware that Adam Silver is a different person, but some of Westbrook's dress is down right ridiculous.
Image

Some examples of Westbrook. Sure, I guess you could argue that it has a better image because it's not related to gang/rap culture, but come on...really?

Image

This is what he wore last night. Even if you like all his other outfits, this is absolutely ridiculous. He makes like 16 million a year.

They modified the dress code. You only need to be dressed up if you are in street clothes on the bench.

As for what he's wearing.... That's just how some people get down now.

Abe Simpson and his hate for clouds will probably be here shortly.

Hip hop back in that time was considered dangerous, now it's mainstream and mostly about dancing.

My first thought, Bryan Colangelo looks so small to Giant Westbrook.

Because the NBA has embraced Russell Westbrook as marketable.

Funny thing is them pants probably cost more than AI whole outfit :banghead:.

It's weird some find them looks to be fashionable, but hell wear whatever the F you want

The craziest part of Russ' outfits is when he drinks a tasty can of Mountain Dew Kickstart and then he disappears into his own shirt. It's super-meta and very disorienting.

One set of clothes sells for $20, one for $500. Which is the NBA alright with?

The worst part is that the shirt in the last picture of the OP probably cost a cool grand at least

You answered your own question. Iverson's culture was considered dangerous (this was a time when rappers were killing each other). Westbrook on the other hand is just dressing funny. I mean, have you ever heard of Walt Frazier?

its cool that he has a personality

imagine life where everyone wore a grey suit and every question was answered 'both teams played hard'

Westbrook has the worst fashion sense I've ever seen, but if he likes his style more power to him.

Yeah, the answer is simple:

When is the last time you saw a gang member dressed in a paisley button-down?

Westbrook's style is the worst I've ever seen. But who cares? The guy can ball out. I once saw D-Wade wearing capri's.

Heck, my Bulls players could dress in nun outfits and if they are ballin out - it's all good.
