If we didn't trade Camby to the Clippers...

Post#1 » by dookieguy » Wed May 20, 2009 2:23 pm

Would we be a better team?

Camby / Birdman
Nene / K-Mart
Melo / Kleiza / Balkman
Jones / Smith
Billups / AC / Hart

Personally, I think that it couldn't hurt right? Some extra interior D at the 5, with Nene playing his natural position at the 4 and K-Mart coming off the bench?

Oh it would have hurt. Camby was useless last year. He only hurt the team when he was on the floor.

Wow, Nuggets for sure where be fishing by now, Camby is not a starter, and really hurt a team when he get the job, his boards and block“s tricky everyone who not see a entire game.

Defensively you'd be worse.

We'd be worse offensively as well.

Woah, for real? And here I was thinking he was a strong interior presence. Looks like stats don't tell everything.

They definitely don't. Camby wasn't exactly a physical defender. He also would leave his man to try and go for a block, allowing for an easy layup or an easy offense board for a score. He didn't box out when rebounding either, but would take the rebound right out of a teammate's hands.

He basically was out there trying to pad his stats. Not play team ball.

Players around him took defense less seriously because he'd clean up their mess. He might have even encouraged it because blocks get him paid. Also, we wouldn't have been able to afford Billups without that trade. No way Kroenke goes that far over the luxury tax.

On a team with AI and Melo, Camby was nicknamed Mr. Touches, because Camby was the one who bitched about his touches. A guy with no post game and no outside game. Seriously. He wasn't good on offense, but wanted the ball.

And what if Billups would have Changed him a bit? maybe Denver could keep the same core but have Camby coming from the Bench with Birdman, no one would ever had the guts to come into the paint with both of them...

The only thing Billups would be able to change is to have him man up... and he'd still get owned in the post.

Honestly that Camby trade might go down as one of the best.
