Agreed. Love Dirk, but best Mav ever doesnt mean he'd be a good GM. He was said to be a big part of why the Mavs traded for Rondo and said Giannis was too skinny so didnt want the Mavs to take him. Incredible player, awesome guy by all accounts, but probably doesnt have the chops to be a GM

Same thoughts. On one hand you'd get a decent shot at getting Luka back in 2028 - at least being able to secure a meeting with his camp. On the other hand, he could end up like Joe Dumars as GM. Present day Joe Dumars.

I saw Dirk say in a recent interview that when he retired he thought he would transition to the Mavs front office and eventually be the GM. He didn’t get the opportunity he thought he would though (likely because of Nico) and now that he’s had time to see the amount of time you have to put in to be a good GM he’d rather do something else related to the NBA.

I think he's doing amazing job on Amazon Prime, really raised the quality compared to ESPN and TNT.

Couldn't agree more with you guys. Get this guy out of here, the time to part ways was the day after the past summer's draft lottery. AD for expirings and picks is ideal, if you can get a serviceable player, even better. But just get rid of him please.

I understand the love for Kyrie and to some degree AD, but I don't recall any Mav in history draining more from this franchise financially than those 2 individually.

We are getting virtually nothing in return this season for our near 100 million dollar investment in those 2.

I know most of us want AD gone, but hypothetically if the FO wants to keep AD (particularly because of his depressed trade value), it would make sense to move Gafford or Lively so that AD plays C and the leftover backs him up. What about something like this:

DAL receives: Josh Green + FRP DAL 27 FRP
CHA receives: Gafford + FRP 28 FRP (worse of OKC and DAL)

DAL gets the coveted DAL 27 FRP back. Daoneandonly probably goes nuts since Green would be back but he's really just there for filler.

CHA gets a good C in Gaff that fits very well with their guards. They get off of Green's bad contract. They also still get a FRP back in exchange for the 27 FRP, albeit, it wil be OKC's pick which will be end of the 1st round in all likelyhood. In this trade, CHA bets on DAL keeping AD, a healthy Kyrie, and a sophomore leap from Flagg next year making DAL a playoff team in 27 and therefore the 27 FRP not being as valuable.

So basically Gaff for a FRP swap of years? And we have to pay Street Clothes 3.0 $28.2 over the next 2 seasons? What is your logic behind this?

IMO, Gaff is worth MUCH more than that.

I don't understand why posters on this board want to give Gaff away. He's coveted by many teams in the league. He's productive on both ends of the court and is on a very sensible contract. I realize that if AD stays and plays C, Gaff is a luxury.... but that diminishes his value none.
