So you have to deal with the possibility of him leaving or having to match an ugly contract to retain him. That puts a ceiling on what I'd be ready to give up to get him, even though I like him a lot.

Hart would be extension eligible during the season.

Thought you need 2 years after the last contract was signed? Maybe I'm wrong. Probably I'm wrong.

Extended contracts
Second anniversary after extension signed, if the extension lengthened the contract to three or four seasons (including any remaining seasons on the existing contract). If the extension lengthened the contract to five or six seasons (including any remaining seasons on the existing contract), it can be extended on the third anniversary after extension signed.

Not sure if I read it correctly, but assuming I did his contract will expire (ETO) before we can extend.

His contract is actually 3 years, it has a weird mutual option 3rd year. I thought Bobby Marks said it was extension eligible, but I could be misremembering this minutia.

True, but he's better than Brook. He was a good player before Trae Young got there. Bud drafted him and really liked him. Not something I would pursue, but if they want to inaccurately scapegoat him and give him away for nothing, then I've definitely seen worse Bucks moves.

I do think I understand his contract. As far as I know, the contract can't be extended before his ETO resolves (so not during the season) because the second anniversary wouldn't have happened yet until a few weeks into FA 2023. I found Marks explaining the contract here:

https://streamable.com/io95rn

It's very interesting but he doesn't mention anything about future extensions.

I don’t disagree with you but some stupid team is going to give Collins the money he wants. He’ll be an albatross from day one. I’d love him on a reasonable deal but this is all about the money.

Huh? He's not a FA, he got 4 years on his deal.

He has 4 years left on his contract, this has nothing to do with an extension. It's a little larger than I'd like to pay him, but not terrible, and we'll see a other salary explosion in the league before it's over.

Oops that's me. I thought this was about his giant FA deal coming up, but it turns out it already happened. So, he's already an albatross with no trade value. Who wants to pay that guy $25,000,000 a year? The Knicks?

I'm personally not a JC fan, but he's scoring on good efficiency, spacing the floor, rebounding the ball and protecting the rim. All while still being relatively young and 'cost controlled'. I understand why some teams like him. Again, not a fan, but I think his market around the league is pretty solid.

I'm not at all advocating trading for Collins, but I'd rather pay him $23.5 million next year than the $22.4 million we pay Brook and Grayson. Collins and Rodney McGruder on a minimum deal would improve us.

However, I think we'll find better deals than Collins.

I think other teams would offer more for Collins than we can/would, but I’d gladly take him if his market craters.

Collins puts up empty numbers and is a diva with 4 years left on his contract, think about why Atlanta would be dumping a guy like that.

Timeline shifted idk what happened next question

Not sure how the Sixers plan to clear the salary needed to get under the luxury tax but Marc Stein says they’re even stronger favorites for PJ:

Numerous rival teams, meanwhile, say with even more conviction now than they did last week — when I first it reported on Wednesday — that they expect PJ Tucker to land in Philadelphia on a three-year, $30 million deal in free agency. If Pat Riley’s Heat can find a way now to re-sign Tucker, they will definitely surprise some people.

If we are getting silly Brook, Allen, Hill works for Collins lol.

Why do you call Collins, or Wood, empty stats guys? Both of their teams were significantly better with them on the floor through their careers. Guys who make their teams worse, like Domatas Sabonis or DDR, are better examples of empty stats.

Also, Wood is not on the Hawks.

Atlanta is moving him because the GM is a moron who has no clue what their issues are. He's just guessing and scapegoating until he get fired.

If ever there was a modern day David Lee it’s John collins. He’ll get you that 20/10 without having a lick of impact on the final result.

I mean maybe an NBA franchise has a bit more reasoning behind contemplating a move rather than their GM being a moron? These guys and their teams behind didn't luck into their positions and even if we think we know better, at the end of the day we're just fans.

How do these stereotypes get started? Collins has solid career on/off numbers, he's nothing like David Lee.

It kind of pisses me off, because I couldn't care less about Collins, but it bothers me when people repeat something false that's a quick Google away.

Not sure how Collins fits in here, but if the price is the Lopez, Allen, Hill poo poo platter, I’d do it, warts and all.

Brook’s effectiveness has dipped each year here. Probably should move off.

We need to find any means to get younger and more talented. With our lack of assets it probably needs to be somewhat of a reclamation project on a dubious contract.
Please reconsider your animal consumption.

We need to be adding good defensive front-court players to pair with Giannis, not disinterested turnstiles like John Collins.
