Yet, Phil and newly-hired Coach Darvin Ham see Westbrook as integral for the success of the Lakers. I am skeptical, but, at the same time, open-minded. Perhaps, Phil saw how Westbrook and last season's team were not coached properly.
You get that they are "Selling the idea" right? Wesbtrook's been bouncing around since he left OKC. His shot (which was never great) has declined massively, and he's become a negative, instead of a positive. For all teams. His attitude, and style of play don't make for better team. That's always been that way. Long, long ago did OKC get to the finals. With Durant, Harden, Ibaka, and several other players as well.
I'd ask Phil how come all the other coaches have failed to put him in a position to win? Much Like Harden....your only option is to just give him the ball, and see how far it goes......and it always comes up short. We watched like 8-9 years straight of Harden, and Westbrook go big-d$ck-swinging. It got neither of them to the finals...despite being paired with some pretty good talent. That clearly doesn't work....but it's all they really know. Westbrook is a horrible shooter now. And he's losing that crazy explosiveness. But he stubbornly refuses to accept any other way.
Only I wouldn't ask Phil that, since I know Phil is speaking on behalf of Jeanie.....who's trying to sell a tremendously skeptical fanbase on how this will be better next time.
Don't believe Phil. Don't believe Ham. Just like many didn't believe Westbrook 12 months ago, when he said he'd be a different player. I don't hold this against Phil too much, as he's just playing a role. Only he knows better, and he's further throwing Vogel under the bus. That sucks, IMO. And it sucks Jeanie has taken this route.
When next season is done, and it's yet another giant sh** show with Westbrook further ruining the team, I hope Vogel goes on a couple shows and throws some if this back at Jeanie, and Rob, and Westbrick himself. And I hope he tosses the cherry on top by asking why Lebron, and AD stood there silent while he was flushed down the drain.
