No, if the Suns match an offer tendered by another team (and accepted by Ayton), they cannot turn around and trade Ayton. Essentially, the contract is signed with whichever team and then the Suns can either make the contract their own or allow Ayton to join the other team. Once the Suns match, there is a moratorium (I think it is a year) before they can trade Ayton. This exists to stop teams from agreeing to a deal in bad faith and/or teams and players colluding to a deferred sign and trade.
So in other words Ayton holds the keys to whether we get Durant or not?
