I'm ok with Ingles signing but one guy was a quality 25-30 minute a game playoff performer when we could have signed him, one tore his ACL 6 months ago.
I think the legend of PJ’s championship run with the Bucks is still blinding basketball fans and pundits alike. In this year’s ECF he had a +/- of -34 for the series. Even if you remove his -30 outlier game when Boston blew them out. He was still a negative for the overall series. If he was our one big move this offseason, we would need him to perform better than he did against Boston which I don’t see happening as he continues to age.
Is he a bulldog who can defend the opponents best player any given night? Yes but he’s clearly not the impact player he’s made out to be this offseason.
Would I love for him to still be here? Yes but not if we are having to pay him $10MM per for his 37-39 year old seasons.
This is why we signed Ingles. He can provide the bulldog mentality but also provides excellent passing and floor spacing to boot. His on court value is much higher than PJ’s even while being significantly less athletic. Sometimes we forget how much a high BBIQ is worth in the playoffs. Look no further than Draymond at how impactful playing smart can be even when having significant limitations. (To be clear,
I’m not saying Ingles is on Green’s level.)
