He claims Kyrie and KD made demands about rehiring assistant coaches and signing Melo like 2-3 days ago.
Allegedly, the team has had conversations with KD and Kyrie since and things have calmed down. If you can decipher Kyrie code the words he uses to describe it are "Everybody won" and "It was a stick up." He's talking now like KD + Kyrie want to stay.
This might be the Nets working with Kevin just to get more leverage for a trade. If teams think we're operating ready to go for one more season, they might stop holding back assets in a trade.
Or maybe KD + Kyrie actually had productive talks with the team and they actually prefer to stay. Or KD + Kyrie felt like they were losing power in the organization and successfully got Marks to back down. Maybe the KD trade demand with the negative PR and weak offers actually spooked Tsai.
Very confusing stuff.
I disagree. KD and Kyrie had the power for years; Marks and Tsai have jockeyed it back and reminded them literally who pays the checks and constructs the team.
KD has to ask Marks to send him to a good team, if he wants a trade. Marks doesn’t need to oblige. The Nets can split 7/11 and send them to destinations where they’re sure to compete against each other and one, if not both, may not be able to join a contender for the rest of their careers (as key cogs).
IMO, this isn’t the Marks capitulating. This is he and Tsai saying we will stay together only under certain conditions, otherwise you’re screwed. KD and Kyrie dared marks to pull the pin out the grenade thinking he wouldn’t drop it in our house and Marks said “Oh yeah? Watch this.” They’re panicking and probably realizing that he house they currently have isn’t so bad after all.
