Obviously, I see Paolo as the fulcrum of our team - as a #1 overall should be - and I think he's going to be ROY. I didn't really expect to see RJ, so that only made me lose the unfounded optimism I was developing for him. After drafting PB instead of Jabari, the glaring need for spot up shooters jumped to the forefront...so, re-signing Harris and Bamba made more sense (especially on great deals), drafting Caleb made sense (especially if he can really hit 3's), and watching RJ continue pounding on the "I'm a PG" door instead of trying to show his 3&D capabilities made me sense that he has no concept of where he might fit with this team.

Summer league is over...I'm ready to see Suggs and Fultz hitting 3's in an empty gym, so I can have hope that our backcourt can hang with and complement our exciting frontcourt. I'd still really like to see a trade, just to consolidate a handful of our truly promising "maybes" into another "probably" shooter. We have too many bodies, none are completely hopeless, but we can't develop 12 young guys at once...support the kingpins of this team. Suggs, in particular, is the guy I have my eye on. His rounding out his offensive game can determine our immediate and long-term trajectory. Either he's a big part or we're still missing the big piece where he's sitting.

So, it's "swole" videos, "Look, Isaac can walk now" videos, "20 3's in a row in an empty gym" videos, and trade rumors for me.

you are pleased with both? didnt Houstan play bad except for 1 game?

He's big, moves well without the ball, plays hard...we know he can shoot, consistency will likely come and he may look better with better teammates creating more open shots. I'm definitely not expecting two Paolo's...he's a 2rp with great role-player potential on a team that needs his particular profile very much.

do we really know that? to me, he looked like a 2nd round pick and needs major development. not going to call him bad, but not calling him good yet either.

True...I guess I'm basing that off the whole reason he was drafted...you hope to have some degree of comfort that that skill is there. I guess you could say the same about Aaron Nesmith, who was drafted a LOT higher and still hasn't reclaimed the exceptional shooting that we all took for granted was there. We'll see...I'm comfortable with who he appears to be, considering where he was drafted.

I’m a little bummed out that once again the Magic have zero desire to want to win anything. I feel this is how the entire season is going to go. Even though it is summer league, I wish the Magic would want to be the champions of summer league just to say “hey we won the summer league”

When I played in summer league tournaments (baseball) even though it wasn’t the real season, we played to win because we were all competitive- even though the games didn’t mean anything, it was just the nature of us wanting to be the best and win. I don’t see that same mind set or desire with this summer league team to want to win which is a huge turnoff to me

I’ve seen a clip of Paolo saying that the team had the ring in the back of their minds so I thought they were gunning for it. But it did shift once Paolo was shut down. The team really were trying to win games, only problem is that once he, EJ, and Admiral was shut down, the talent sort of dropped.

Well shooters who cant find their rhytm going to the rim are usually streaky. Houstan needs a lot of physical development. He needs conditioning, but he run like crazy. First game he was fresh then it went downhill. He reminds me of young JJ Redick in some ways. He will need Redicks conditioning.
My money is on Banchero going number 1 !

Houstan had two pretty good games and a few stinkers, but when Paolo was out there he looked very useful.

Chemistry is everything...some shooters look useless without facilitators and there are NO assists if somebody doesn't finish the play. Guys like Luka (and Paolo? and Franz?) get people PAID by creating good, open shots...I hope we have the finishers to "complete them".

I'm feeling wrong about the draft. While he turned it over a decent amount, and I suspect he will do that this season, you can still see Paolo is ahead of everyone else. He's already filled out, handles the ball quite well and has excellent vision and IQ. His defense was also there despite many saying that was a weakness. Dare I say it he might change the course of this franchise.

Caleb could easily turn into a useful role player. He's got great height, shot form and activity/motor level. He flys around the court and has a good IQ of how to get open. He's highly dependent on playing with the right group of players, but that is ok.

It will be a long wait.

here is the larger interview. interviewer is from Turning Point USA. very far right. happened about a month ago

Good interview. I stand with Jonathan Issac as well.
This may or may not be your intent but I it hate that the minute someone posts anything JI related they HAVE to look and see what aspect of the content is “far right” so they can instantly discredit it instead of actually listening.

This is why nobody can have actual dialogue. Not everyone who disagrees with left leaning ideologies or who’s simply a Christian is a proud boy. Even if people already know they disagree with JI’s personal beliefs how about letting other people listen to it so they can make up their own minds instead of instantaneously trying to cancel it?

Playing with actual NBA players could make a huge difference for Caleb. There’s a lot more talent and a lot more space not to mention we have three guys (FW, P5, Fultz) who are really good getting guys open looks.

wasnt trying to "cancel" anything. Just putting in perspective about the interviewer. if you look up Breakaway it says " Every week we will be having unfiltered, unapologetic, and unwoke sports conversations. " so they are already putting their bias out there. and Turning Point USA has their own agendas, of which Charlie Kirk is a leader of. no real need to list their controversies

Summer league means nothing to me. It's just a little bit of basketball content during free Agency. It's such a long wait until pre season which also doesn't mean much to me it's only a little more exciting because it means meaningful games are imminent.

My only hope to get through the long wait is new threads on this board which inspire great debates among our magic Fandom. It does seem like there's an uptick in posters here, more so than most offseasons.
