I really don't see who is left to trade on Suns for KD. Except picks.

I don't like it. It's probably right.

Seems fine to me. Good to ship out Obi so that the usual suspects stop trying to undermine the Knicks all-NBA player. Though I guess they'll pivot to Paschall. Grimes is fine to go - probably ends up sticking in the league (though I thought that about whole team Dot), but Mitchell takes all of his developmental minutes anyway.

[edit] I would want to insist on #1-protection for the 2023 picks. And pay more on the back end of necessary. Tbhi don't see a Brunson-Mitchell-Randle led Knicks being in the lottery, but if it all goes tits up you can't give up your 7.5% chance at big Vic for nothing.

The only person who undermined Julius Randle is Julius Randle

I can live with that
Sucks losing Obi but he is rotting away behind Randle

Mitchell replaces Grimes which is an upgrade

Grimes is better than Quickley and Quickley would make the third small guard on the roster behind Brunson and Mitchell. Grimes is also a better shooter and defender.

Trading 3 unprotected firsts + Grimes is bad enough. Obi just makes it worse, plus 2 more picks. What valuable assets will be left over for another trade after that? Quickley? Sims? 2029 unprotected first? That’s a major depletion right there.

Grimes is a better fit but IQ is Don’s friend which probably plays a role with him coming to NY. Same reason I could see Don in Miami with Bam

These get complicated but here's a shot:

Nets- Ayton, Fournier
Jazz - 2023 NYK, 2023 Dal (via NYK), 2023 PHX, 2025 NYK, 2027 NYK , Grimes, Rose
Suns- KD , Randle
Knicks- DMitch, Bojan Bogdonavic (22M expiring)

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

also, I don’t think ayton can be traded yet.

Correct on Ayton not until December. Hey, I heard about a 5 team trade, details forthcoming....

Brunson and Mitchell starting backcourt and then keeping the IQ and Rose on the bench is something I could get pretty pumped for

He grew up a Heat fan too. I bet that's his preference if they could make it happen.

Ayton is ineligible to be traded until January 15th, 2023.

After that he has full veto power over being traded until July 15th, 2023.

All of Ainge's leverage is based on the belief Donny won't make a stink.

I wonder if Leon's CAA will play nice

The Nets don't want him anyway at his price. :D

I call bs on that. Why would we help the Nets. It's a two team trade - Knicks and Jazz. Each has what the other wants, there's no need for the Nets and suns

I wonder if Donovan replied to that tweet from Clarkson yet.

IMO I think this trade happens. They may be trying to get another team involved to help get UTA wat they want without the Knicks giving up things they don't want to? Something that both sides can agree upon. They may also move ahead with or without a third team. There is no real rush right now.

I agree. I think a deal will get done.

Just wondering what will break the staring contest.

I am thinking the Lakers must feel somewhat desperate to make something happen around LeBron and AD. Maybe they get roped into this and they find something that makes sense for all 3 teams. I am surprised OKC hasn't been talked about in any of the trades this summer.

The Jazz radio guy story seems legit to me. Maybe they are close and they are just trying to make calls for a third team to see if they can finalize a deal or, just haggling over the final package.

For all we know...Ainge is just wasting everyone's time like KD is doing. The whole league seemed to stall once he opened his mouth. Now things seem slower to me.

Losing Obi Toppin

Or

The Mitchell trade being announced in edition 7 of this thread instead of Edition 6 which had the title “something might actually happen in this one”

I love Obi. Mans got hops - but honestly - thread 6 missing out by a whisker is the kind of stuff that keeps you up at night until you’re on your deathbed.

….seeeeyah Obi!

I would endure an infinite amount of new threads if it meant we were retaining Obi :D

Think about the legacy this forum leaves for future Knicks generations if we got it right.

I want to tell my grandkids one day I was there when the RealGM Knicks Crew called the Mitchell trade happening in Thread #6.

If it turns out to be thread 7 than what are we? Nothing to nobody!!

If you want I can derail this thread to ruin that legacy for you :D

PS. He wont be moved before the end of August. I suspect that we'll be on to thread 10 by then.

We’ve all been quietly collecting first round forum beefs for the last 2 years - stashing them in the hopes to one day trade for a thread title that just nails it and predicts the future. This is the one!!!

We really about to let Obidiah Toppin stop us from that??
