Brunson is a Knick.
Pretend Mitchell will be a Knick.
Brunson had a lot of success playing 5 out and working in the paint with the ball
Bruson also proved he can play off the ball with a ball dominant player, though Luka passes a lot
Brunson will shoot 3's but not at volume, he's not bad at it when he does
IMHO spacing can be provided without shooting 3's if the the player has to be accounted for and can hit the midrange - Brunson does that
Brunson also had success in lineups that were 4 out instead of 5 out - Powell ,WCS etc have seen minutes
Dallas rolled out the following groups of 3 point threats:
Bullock/Donic/Kleiber/DFS (kinda - not a stiff), and then combinations of KP/Bertrans and THJr/Dinwiddie, depending on trades, injury situations
Donovan Mitchell had a lot of success being on the ball playing 4 out
I'm not sure how often the Jazz went small ball and 5 out
While Mitchell himself, Conley and Boj B provided the 3 point shooting in the starting lineup and Royce O'Neal and Gobert didn't, Jazz had Clarkson and Ingles (when healthy in 20-21) playing starters/heavy rotation minutes
Utah rolled out the following 3 point shooters in 20-21 (healthier year)
Mitchell/Conley/Boj B/Ingles/Clarkson, with a little bit of İlyasova
Knicks don't have a Klieber to got 5 out. At best Hartenstein off the bench provides more spacing from 5 than a rim runner
I think Brunson at 6'1 approximates the output on offense of Conley or beats it - Jazz had 32,33,34 age Conley. Conley isn't an assist monster but more of a pure PG than Brunson. Brunson a better all around scorer. Older Conley definitely more committed to getting up more 3 point shots but that's kind of the league changing, I'd think.
Randle and RJ aren't the greatest 3 point shooters, but I don't think either are bad.
If Randle and RJ are starting, how would you organize the offense or change it from Thibs has done last 2 years to maximize the starting 5?
Who would you try to retain if at all possible while getting Mitchell to make the offense the best for Brunson/Mitchell, if not the defense as well? Meaning - Fournier, IQ and Grimes - retaining rotational shooting all costs? Even if it's means losing Obi and Cam and Rose?
Who would you move Randle for in a trade to make the lineup work better?
If not Randle, who would you move RJ for? Pre and post extension - before he's a lower $ contract, so who is good at that price, and after, he's paid more, but might be easier to find that proficient volume 3&D player making 25 million
Ex:
Have Randle set the screen, get the ball and then make passes from there?
Play Randle more at the 5, saying f*ck you Mitch?
Etc
