The godmother who initially posted on Twitter had a history of racist posts against white people and other minorities and is running for office to be a judge…take that for what you will. Who knows if the story turns out to be accurate
You do realize that both BYU and the Mormon church have a long--including lots of
recent stuff involving rape/incest--history of cover-ups and/or outright lies, yes?
I do agree that we don't know enough yet to make a judgement one way or the other. All I know is that if BYU/the Mormon church told me the weather is hot and sunny, I'd get out my ski jacket and my umbrella.
You do realize every group of people has long history of bad things, some have bad present even, if stereotyping is fine, then racism also is, in fact the latter is a direct result of the former...
You realize that the Mormon church is facing yet another series of lawsuits filed
this year for decades of covering up rape/incest incidents and protecting their members, right?
Families of survivors say the church funnels sexual abuse claims to church lawyers before police, a VICE News investigation reveals.
https://www.vice.com/en/article/d3n73w/duty-to-report-the-mormon-church-has-been-accused-of-using-a-victims-hotline-to-hide-sexual-abuse-claimsIn 1995, the Kirton McConkie law firm established the Church’s abuse hotline. It currently defends it in lawsuits alleging sexual abuse. While the law firm is not technically a part of the Mormon Church, it has played an essential role in helping it navigate potential lawsuits for decades, providing policy advice and serving as its legislative advocate. The Church is the law firm’s largest client.
However, the law firm’s role extends further. Vice reports that when calls come in, they are answered inside the Church’s Family Services agency and then transferred to Kirton McConkie. This prevents callers from being immediately connected with law enforcement who may then act on the reports.
https://www.hurley-law.com/chicago-injury-lawyers/why-the-mormon-church-abuse-hotline-hasnt-helped-victims/You realize that BYU has also been sued repeatedly
over the last five years because the honor code at BYU allowed it to punish rape victims who came forward...and punished these rape victims were.
Brigham Young University students who are victims of sex crimes say they are investigated by the school and sometimes disciplined after reporting their abuse.
https://www.sltrib.com/news/2017/07/27/byu-students-say-victims-of-sexual-assault-are-targeted-by-honor-code/Again, this is
recent stuff, and it appears to be
systemic. Again, while I don't necessarily believe the incident as described by this student's relative, I certainly don't believe anything coming out of BYU/the Mormon church. Sorry.
RIP magnumt--you're literally why I'm still here on these boards.
RIP The Hater--keep up the good fight in the great beyond.
