You can build through the draft, which takes 3+ years of tanking and high picks as well as a lot of luck. Or you can build through free agency. Given that the Los Angeles is a place where players want to sign as free agents it’s easy to plan for max cap space in the years where we dont have picks.
Because sending multiple picks for a hodge podge of meh veterans isn't the solution.
This x 5.
Giving up the picks isn't a big deal. And yes, as someone wrote...Lebron's window is quickly closing (feel like we've been saying that for about 5 years). But that doesn't suddenly make those players good.
Just stop for a second and think about it: WHY is Indiana considering dumping those players? I keep hearing about how good they are. Hell....Mychael Thompson was on ESPN yesterday, and called Hield one of the best 3-point shooters in the league. That's just the Laker hype machine. I'm sorry, but it is. There's no way they are dumping 2 players in their 20's who are "so dominant" so they can absorb bricky-boy's bloated contract for a year...and get our two lower first round picks.
Miles Turner's contract ends this year too. Hield is 2 years. So it's not a salary dump. Flexibility?? For what? What is Indiana doing, if these guys are half the players they're suddenly being hyped up for?
Still not convinced??? Ok....well why aren't other teams jumping on board if the asking price is so low for these "AMAZING" players??
And there in lies the inescapable truth.....these guys are nba riff-raff. Two guys who's names won't be mentioned again in 6-7 years. And every GM out there knows it. The Pacers are trying to swindle two picks, cause they smell our desperation (I still think we'll ultimately fold, and make the deal).
So yeah...ask yourself why NO OTHER TEAM is trying to get in on the act here, if these guys are really worth a damn.
And that's why we shouldn't make the deal.
