Re: Vassell for Fultz
Vassell is definitely one of my favorite hypotheticals. SAS has so many young wing prospects..it's easy to envision him having a Mikael Bridges type trajectory to his game. He's not a star but he'd be a great fit, IMO, next to our (
) two star forwards...original offer doesn't do much for SAS, IMO...Fultz and Vassell are both intriguing prospects, but neither has really delivered much yet. Could be an entirely different conversation about either or both by the TD.

Yep, its nice to win one every now and then. Sadly in my head, I view this last Bulls pick as the last part of the Dwight trade. Crazy i know...

He is so great off ball that i don't see reasons why Magic should give him on ball duties.
He is way more "Klay Thompson" than he is "Tukogulu/Ingles". ( not comparing size, athletics, shooting , but how they are used)
I like this comparison to Franz, though the optimist in me holds out hope he can do more. However with Paolo capable of running point I don’t think Franz will need to and he could thrive in a similar Klay-like role.

Re: Vassell for Fultz
Damn, this is tough for me. LOVE Markelle but was also really high on Vassell in 2020. As much as I like the player (Markelle), I recognize his fit may not be a great compliment to Franz/Paolo because of his lack of outside shooting. Devin Vassell, to me, is in the same mold of Jabari Smith as an elite 3&D role player. He'd be AMAZING next to the playmaking of Poalo & Franz. Defensively, he and Jalen would probably form the best defensive backcourt in the league; both have all-defensive potential.
I'd rather send Suggs but if this were real, you'd have to go for it.

Jalen didn't show lead ball-handler abilities and I think that's an important skill for a PG (even with Paolo on the team). I was really surprised by his subpar handling; especially for a guard drafted that high. Hopefully he improved it.
It's one of the reasons I'd prefer Markelle; he can easily handle pressures and does a great job penetrating to the lane; with or without a screen. We'll see how Jalen does this season. Hopefully he gets more on-ball reps to see how that skill improved.

Re: Vassell for Fultz
I like Vassell alot, however I think the Spurs like Vassell alot too, and it would take more than just Fultz to get him unless Fultz looks great this season which is possible.
I was watching Vassell closely last season when Dejounte was out later in the season. He has a scoring touch but can be streaky, and he is a work in progress when it comes to creating for others
His shooting splits increasing even while increasing usage the past couple of seasons is always a good sign though
Vassell would be the perfect insurance if Suggs doesnt pan out. We'd still have to get us a star talent at the PG/SG position to compliment either way though. I'm curious if Vassell could guard PG's on defense.

Mikal Bridges is a good comparison for him.

Nope. I cringe at the thought of Cole and Suggs running the offense. Maybe that changes this year but it's a nope from me for right now.

They would not run the offense

Re: Vassell for Fultz
I’d do it.
DV at the 2 would be really nice for us. And Suggs is a pretty good defender. I expect him to at least be like Marcus Smart. Not a good shooter but elite defender. Suggs doesnt have to be the primary ballhandler anyway. With DV, Franz and Paolo, we pretty much have top 3 options right there and all Suggs has to do is make those wide open threes.

Yeah, as much as I hope for a nice story from Fultz you have to say yes to this if the Spurs call with that offer. I just don’t see them doing that.

Agree.. the ball should be in Paolos hands...pepe1991 wrote:basketballRob wrote:He'll get better, Paolo and Franz can run most of the offense. If Mikal Bridges can play SG, he may be a more realistic target if Phoenix takes a step back.

His pick&rolls as ballhandler were meh, average, .50th percentile, based on ppp & usage, bit worst than Evan Fournier who nobody wanted to see near ball on Orlando.
Sure he could improve on that with experience, but again ,i think he is best used as cutter and guy who moves without ball.

Re: Vassell for Fultz
As usual, I am very happy that fans on RealGM do not contribute to management decisions for Orlando.

Maybe there is an offer for Moses Moody, as a player whose skills more align with what Orlando is doing.

Your kidding me you rather send Suggs then Fultz? I love this deal because it does a few things:
1. Clears playing time for Suggs to be the starting PG, I don't know if he's capable of it but I do think its his best position in the NBA. We spent the 5th pick on this guy we need to know if he can play or not. Fultz can lead our team better right now but I don't think he will ever be an above average starting PG because his shoot won't ever come back to form. We need someone who can space the floor better than what Fultz is capable of. Suggs shoot horribly as a rookie but I have faith his shoot will eventually be league average or better.
2. With Suggs and Cole manning the PG spot, we can balance our roster a bit more with Vassell at the 2 guard. I think his shooting and defense will fit in perfectly with this team.
