I obviously do not have a background in serial killer psychology, but I am finding it a little unbelievable Domhnall Gleeson's character traits. Seems to be a little too normal and well adjusted for a serial killer. But again, what do I know.
Same, I'm no expert other than watching shows and have read the Wikis of some of the big ones. Yea the classic way to look at serial killers is a completely awkward anti-social person. I'd guess that's generally considered true but like everything there is exceptions. Plus in most cases these people are sociapaths who can lie and manipulate to fit their whims, which often will be in order to fit in.
One that pops in my head is Bundy. Seemed to live a fairly normal life, had normal girlfriends, jobs, weaved in and out of legit social circles.
