I was at the scrimmage with my wife and daughter.
Here are some random thoughts:
Crowd could have been much louder, they only really got hyped when merch was being thrown into the crowd.
Same thing when team Canada was in town for the game against Argentina. Crowd wasn't that loud then either.
Nick was sitting next to Bobby the during the scrimmage, Masai was there for a bit but took off.
Scottie def. played it up to the crowd when he was announced doing a pretend superman shirt rip as he came out of the tunnel. He pointed to every corner trying to get everyone cheering.
Pascal looks taller than Scottie
Still feel like Pascal had the loudest cheers though.
After all the talk of Scottie being a better shooter he was pretty much bricking every shot during warm up.
He definitely kept close to O.G. the whole warm up.
O.G. is huge with legs like tree trunks and he was on fire, lots of running the floor for easy dunks, a great 3 that I think video was posted earlier.
He also had a couple blocks as well.
He didn't slip and fall once. This was too easy for him.
Looks like he's in mid season form.
Pascal started a bit slow but caught fire and he looks so smooth and effortless out there
Huge smiles and lots of dancing from him the whole time which is always a good sign.
Not worries about him at all.
Didn't focus on Fred too much other than when he was on the bench in front of us. My daughter is 8 years old and a huge Fred fan so she stood behind him and just stood there during timeouts just watching him.
He looked good from what i remember. Definitely slimmed down.
Gary looked good. Lots of interaction with guys on the team. Passed off taking threes for a better pass. Had a great pass into the post after everyone thought he was going to shoot.
Gary was waving at my daughter during a timeout which was pretty nice of him.
Delano's first play of the game was great. Faked a 3 and went in for a dunk.
Had a couple decent strips on D
But nothing else of note.
Kept trying to mentally will him to be better but it didn't work.
I thought he played better than Malachi at the beginning but they both didn't do much. Malachi started scoring a bit later.
Downton didn't do much.
Juancho looked comfortable. He knows how to play which I think is a good sign. Seems like a good glue guy if that makes sense.
Huge Huge Huge drop off between the starters and the bench.
Hard to judge how the bench will work especially since Thad and Otto didn't play.but the bench could continue to be the biggest issue this year.
Koloko def looked better compared to summer league but he still has bad hands.
Boucher is definitely better than the rest of the bench players that played.
He had lots of activity but didn't score much.
Scottie definitely didn't do much. Lots of F****ng around. Wasn't really involved until a bit later but didn't make much of an impact.
They only played 3 10 minute quarters. The starters sat out the 3rd quarter.
Harper Jr did pretty well in that 3rd quarter. He shot looks terrible still. Definitely lost some weight since summer league.
Precious def tried to do a lot but not much really happened.
I didn't pay any attention to defensive rotations.
Takeaways:
It was a fun day for the family.
Hard to see what the bench will look like without seeing Otto and Thad out there but without them I see big issues. But it's not like Nick runs two separate units like Casey did in the old days, so there will probably be a lot of mix and matching guys.
I can see Nick running with one of Fred or Pascal always being on the floor at all times as a ball handler since i didn't see much from Banton and Malachi.
So nice to see some ball.
Let's NBA!!!!!
I ate myself out of the league cause I was fat and slow
