Could add Jayson Tatum to this tweet too. Tatum destroyed Griffin.

Relentlessly lol. Blake defended Jaylen for 4 possessions, and Tatum for 6.

He isn’t good defensively, but a switch all system masks his biggest weakness.

He also had an ankle injury late in the regular season last year, and really only played because the Nets were trying to avoid a sweep. He's not good on defense, but let's face it, he wasn't fully healthy last playoffs so that shouldn't be a true gauge.

Not that I'm into superstitions at all.

But have we considered the last two championships included a curly red head? That might just be what the Celtics were missing.

Not exciting but this is fine. As a regular season minutes eater Blake is ok.

Blake had some moments for the Nets 2 years ago but that's eons ago given how he has aged over the years. He's cooked but he's a decent locker room presence and at least as a vet will be in the right places offensively/defensively even if he's a black hole/traffic cone.

I would have preferred Whiteside/Howard as alternatives. You wouldn't want any of them playing come playoff time but I think at least with Whiteside/Howard they could serve a purpose due to their size (even just leaning on guys like Embiid/Giannis while they drop 30+ could help tire them in a series). Griffin doesn't offer much in that regard. Again though he's a decent locker room vet and Howard/Whiteside have baggage so if you're just looking for a body to absorb regular season minutes and not rock the boat I get going with Blake.

I would have preferred Favors if he gets bought out or LMA to Griffin, he was basically the literal bottom of my list for frontcourt additions, but he did make the list so I guess that goes for something.

I thought Valentine had some intriguing upside. He seemed to be his own worst enemy with lots and lots of boneheaded plays. Felt like he could be the kind of guy who'd vastly improve if he just tightened up and played smarter. Given the C's roster construction though I get not wanting high variance with the end of the bench guys and looking for some consistency even if it comes with an incredibly low ceiling.

A lot has been made of JB searching out Blake. Let’s remember that Seth Curry and Patti Mills were out there too. When is Blake ever going to find himself in that situation in Boston? Is Anthony Edwards going to so easily shake Smart, White or Brogdon hunting for Blake? Hell no. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Blake get some nagging injuries this year because we play him too much…..because he is probably going to look pretty good thanks to his passing, 3 pt range and ability to take charges.

If it was between Blake or Carmelo, I would go with Blake. He will get less playing time and take less shots. Blake should be a good fit but his game has declined so much in the last 3-4 years, it's insane. His legs/knees are gone like I said earlier. I'm ok with him playing about 10-15 minutes a game. I also would like Layman and Šamanic to get a chance to compete for those minutes. Doesn't seem like that is going to happen now unless one of those guys as a good tramping camp/pre season.

Even if it just means Al’s load in the regular season is reduced and he can save himself for the playoffs more then this move does the trick. Blake definitely plays hard and should fit in well with Marcus etc even if his athleticism is done. Trust in Brad.

You laugh, but that's actually a good point. We know the Bucks are our biggest competition in the east.

Giannis is their best player and we know his go-to move is putting his head down and driving to the basket like a battering ram - like when he charged straight into Rob's knee that he just had surgery on.

Well, here's Griffin. A big, strong, sturdy, tough dude who just led the league in charges drawn. It certainly could've played a role in Brad deciding to sign him.
Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything :)

Blake and his ability to defend GA was a factor when the Nets almost beat the Bucks without Harden/Kyrie 2 years ago. I’m not sure how he did last year.

By the way, as a coincidence our own Luka (Samanic) surely must speak Spanish as well since he played for FC Barcelona youth teams

Altough the majority of Mexican young people probably had to ask their parents what "Como estais" means! (here in Mexico you almost never hear the vosotros form of Spanish)

And yet the Celtics signed Blake. Should we consider why?

My guess is they don't like taking risks..

I think it's playstyle. We haven't had anyone as big and beefy as Baynes since 2018. Whiteside, Howard, and Cousins are not quite "all of Australia", but they aren't playing any 4 either, and Blake gives that 4/5, (somewhat) switchable versatility, while *also* being able to fit in/contribute MUCH more to a ball-motion offense than those guys.

bisme37 wrote:So the other options would have been guys like Aldridge, Dwight or Carmelo.

I think they went with Blake because he is the best and most willing passer in the group. He can shoot. He sets good screens. And he's actually a good rim protector, not in terms of shot blocking but by drawing charges. So he kinda gives you a combination of the stuff the others guys give, and is a good presence to have in the locker room.

I liked the signing well enough at first glance and the more I think about it the more it makes sense. He's not going to play a ton but will be useful in short spurts.

Yeah, I wanted them to sign Melo, but Blake's 5 years younger, a more legitimate option at the 5, and who knows might have more than one last year in him.

Both of those guys are going to be 'rallying' factors in the playoffs, like 'win one for Blake'/'win one for Melo', which I doubt anyone would've felt much for Whiteside or LaMarcus or Boogie, and doesn't apply to Dwight.

I have limited expectations, but love the move as it gives us a legitimate '10th' man behind MS/JB/JT/AH/RW/MB/DW/GW/PP. Vonleh, Kornet, Hauser and whoever can still compete for a few minutes here or there, but I wasn't comfortable penciling any of them into our top 10.

Blake Griffin is only 33. He might still be able to Recuperate enough, to give us one good year.
I mean, Al Horford (who has taken better care of himself) is 36. So, we'll see.

Griffin as our 3rd Center. Kornet as our 4th. And Kabengele, or one of the younger players, as our Two-Way.
That's a decent Center-by-Committee.
