I think they went with Blake because he is the best and most willing passer in the group. He can shoot. He sets good screens. And he's actually a good rim protector, not in terms of shot blocking but by drawing charges. So he kinda gives you a combination of the stuff the others guys give, and is a good presence to have in the locker room.
I liked the signing well enough at first glance and the more I think about it the more it makes sense. He's not going to play a ton but will be useful in short spurts.
Yeah, I wanted them to sign Melo, but Blake's 5 years younger, a more legitimate option at the 5, and who knows might have more than one last year in him.
Both of those guys are going to be 'rallying' factors in the playoffs, like 'win one for Blake'/'win one for Melo', which I doubt anyone would've felt much for Whiteside or LaMarcus or Boogie, and doesn't apply to Dwight.
I have limited expectations, but love the move as it gives us a legitimate '10th' man behind MS/JB/JT/AH/RW/MB/DW/GW/PP. Vonleh, Kornet, Hauser and whoever can still compete for a few minutes here or there, but I wasn't comfortable penciling any of them into our top 10.
