Having a large payroll got nothing to do with taking on corpses. Do those teams have 30m dead money on the books? In what eay does 30m deadmoney make them better? If its that good, we xan probably get a 1st or 2 for bertans then. Taking on bad money is never a +, however u try to sell it
Conely is owed 35 if waived and 42 if not, exactly like Bertans, and Powell is owed 11, Gay 12-13, this is the same money, Conely is actually need as 3rd ball handler, Bertans doesn't see flooe with Kidd emphasis on defense.
I think Conley contract is 23M this year and 24M next year (14M guaranteed), total is 47M, not 42M, and even if waived, then it is 37M. For Bertans, it is 38M for 3 years, as he will definitely be waived in his 5M guaranteed in final year. And, I have no concern on current year as the problem is not on this year Conley of 23M + Gay of 6M vs Bertans of 17M + Powell of 11M, which is comparable. The problem is on next year, Conley of 24M + Gay of 6M vs Bertans of 18M, this make DAL roster 12M more expensive, if you waive Conley, then the salary becomes comparable, but is it really good route to go with 14M dead money in order to save for 10M?
We have more than enough expiring contracts to make big trade every year. Conley's expiring contract places no help on this regards. Next year expiring Dinwiddie + Bullock + Bertans = already 48M already.
