He plays smart and without ego, searching his friends if they open, and don't force tough shots usually. That's PG abilities. Sure he needs to improve his handles maybe. But that's where he's good, better for the team also. That's an advantage to play someone at his size and flexability as PG. But if the Wiz want to see what he's capable of doing, he definetely needs to touch the ball a lot more. As i said already in the days of Scott Brooks when he was standing at the corner all along. This is not what he feels comfortable with. He's comfortable when the ball is in his hands.
Point forward, Point guard. It doesn't matter. Beal can bring the ball up. So can Wright. Morris. Beal showed tonight that he could run the show. Deni has to be on the floor due to his defense and there's no way he's 100% tonight after spraining his ankle for the first time ever (how is that possible?). I think when he gets healthier and can play more minutes, he's the guy I want out there with the second unit with Morris, Barton, Gafford and Rui to be the "point forward".
I don't think it's a question of "who can" do it, it's a question of "who we want" to do it, why, and how this role will help the team to win. When i choose a PG for the team, I'm not looking just on who can do it. I want to see who is the most impactful, the most effective and offcourse - how this change will influence the rest of the team, prediction. Anyway I think it's worth a try. In the end as i said before. As organisation you have an interest investing on Deni. He's young, and he has a lot of abilities that a PG needs to have with.
1)He's not healthy. 2)You are paying Beal $251M to do what he did tonight. Run the show, share the ball, play some D and hit shots in the clutch. 3)If you play him as the point in the second unit, that's fine. 4)He's not ready. He's just 21 and I doubt Wes Jr. trusts him to run the entire show with Beal, Porzingis and Kuzma on the floor. 5)His defense is even more important against the opponent's top scorers than him playing point. 6)Over time, he could be the 1 since we really don't have a PG. 7)He's coming off a groin and ankle sprain so his quickness maybe limited. 8)Needs more time with the Porzingis and Beal to earn their trust. 9)Oh yeah, still needs a left hand.
