I am not bring up Rui to compare their entire games. I am bringing him up because they play the same position in the same offense. You guys keep trying to blame the coaches and other players for Deni's lack of offense. That isn't the problem. Everyone else is playing in the same offense. There isn't a different offense for Deni.
Rui has problems with his game, but lack of aggression isn't one of them.
If Deni does nothing with the ball when he gets it, why would the coaches or players try to get him more touches? Why doesn't Deni drive to the basket when a defender is running out towards him at the 3 pt line? That is basic basketball.
When Deni blows routine layups, is that the coaches fault?

Do you think Deni will earn more respect from Beal, KP, Kuz and Rui if he won't pass them and go directly to the basket? If you think yes, then you don't understand the dynamics inside the locker room, the ranks and the "jobs" of each player. Deni can't do those things when they are with him on the court. He just can't mentally because they'll hate him for that lol. What he needs to do is to getting confidence from running the 2nd unit, and that's all. It's that simple.
He had plenty of time in the 2nd unit last year. He played 74 games off the bench.
Does the team hate Rui/Barton/Kuzma for aggressively looking to score when they get the ball? No. They keep passing them the ball.
There are 24 seconds on the shot clock. By the time they bring the ball past half court there are generally 18 seconds or less on the clock. That doesn't leave a lot of time to get off a good shot.
When other players pass the ball to Deni it is generally because he is open. They are expecting him to do something with the ball.
If he does nothing with it and just gets rid of it to someone who isn't in position to score, he isn't helping the team. If he drives and collapses the defense, then kicks out to an open teammate, that is helping the team.
KP is good at being decisive with the ball. When he catches the ball he will try to do something with it quickly, shooting, driving or looking for a cutter. He puts pressure on the defenders. Kuzma is the same way.
All i want is for Deni to actually do something with the ball when he gets it. Too often he does nothing that i couldn't do, sitting down. I can catch a pass, look around, then hand it off to someone else very easily. Doesn't take much skill to do that.
I think he has the ability to at least be an average player on offense. I think he can score and create for others at a respectable rate. But in order to do that he needs to actually try to do it when he gets the ball. Too often he doesn't even look to score or drive.
