Bol isn't in the same stratosphere as Chet as a prospect.
Bol's an actively bad defender who happens to block a lot of shots because he chases blocks.
Chet's one of the best defensive prospects of all time.
Nonsense.
Bol is averaging 8 RPG in 25 minutes per game.
Rebounding at a higher rate than Carter per minute.
Is he a good low post defender? No
Is Chet a good low post defender? No-one knows because in college he played with a really good low post defender.
It sounds stupid, but I would not trade Bol straight up for Chet.
You are right, it does sound stupid. Because it is.
Bol Bol at average guards 1 pick & roll against ballhandler per game.
Teams score with epic 70% FG ( 90% eFG% ) against him. Currentlly, that's worst pick&roll defense by any nba player.
In addition, on Magic roster, nobody guards isolation worst than Bol.
Look how Pacers played us this game vs last game. They figured Bamba & Bol have zero chance guarding high pick&roll once bigs switch.
By RPM both Bamba & Bol are ranked as rather poor defeneders ( both viewed as Cs). 2 slots above him are Christian Wood & Nurkić, guys who are viewed as defensive liabilities.
By NBA RAPTOR data, defensive raptor ranks him 72th among 101 suited PF. Players who's value on defense was similar to him are Derozan, whatever is left from Lebron and Porter jr. Again, defensive liabilities.
overall Bol blocks shots because he, much like Bamba, chases them. But by doing so he leaves assigments, finds himself in bad spots and is easly bitten off dribble.
To this date, only Pacers did their homework and scouted him and figured how he is weak link. Expect better teams doing the same in near future.
