This will likely be the first time in my life time they don’t make it out of the group.

They are solid if you look at the totality. Last world cups Germany just embarrassed themselves, Spain before that.

Man as a half Argentinan man I’m not feeling well about our team. We came to the cup unbeaten since 2019 and it’s looking like we are struggling

I don't get "USA sucks" opinion.

Are the US a team that will vie to win the World Cup? No. There's only about 5-6 teams in the whole world who can probably say that. Maybe 10 if we are being super duper generous. Are they a team that can get out of the group stage? Yes. They actually have a very realistic chance to do so in this World Cup. They control their own destiny, and that's about as much as you can ask for in the 3rd game in the group stage.

To me, Costa Rica is a team that sucks. Qatar is a team that sucks. The US? They are what they are. A team that is usually a threat to get out of the group but not a real threat to win the whole thing. Which applies to probably half of the teams in the Cup.

Getting out of a group where you only need to finish higher than Iran and Wales, doesn't make you a non-sucky team.

It's just a weird definition of the word, unless you're just being a troll, which is what I'm assuming you're being.

There are like 200+ soccer federations in the world. Being better than 90% of them doesn't scream "sucks" to me, but hey, to each their own.

Now in 1998 where the US got 0 points in the World Cup? Yeah, they sucked then. Then results are the results.

Just give it back to HIF. Don't consider it trolling.

I'm definitely not on board with the "England is underachieving again" takes.

My opinion The reality is that they assemble teams that are consistently good, but not great. If anything they have solidly overachieved.

For instance in Russia 2018, they got all the way to semis, losing to Croatia, without necessarily beating anyone along the way that they weren't obviously supposed to beat. They beat Sweden and Colombia to get there and had lost to Belgium in the group matches.

At delayed Euro-2020, again they get all the way to the finals and lose to Italy, yet the teams they faced on their way there... they upset Germany 2-0 and had an easier walk the rest of the way, vs Denmark and Ukraine.

The aspect that taints England as chokers is that they are comically overrated by... well... themselves. Their insane media and overhyped footballing ethos.

My opinion may be biased of course. My POV is that of someone who saw their national team do this to them:

And this:

And this:

That was an entire generation of English footballers that was seemingly born to suffer against Portugal. Man for man, they were always inferior.

England virtually through. For some odd reason, at the World Cups, goal difference trumps results between the teams, so Wales would have to beat England by like 4 goals to overtake them.

This explains the reason why England were perfectly fine with this result.

It's called the rules. Probably been around longer than the US. :banghead:

Wrong. The US was founded in 1776, long before "futbol" was a game. I thought Europeans were better versed in historical facts than the lowly Americans. But then again can't expect much from someone from a country that needed rescuing not once, but TWICE in the 20th century

LOL. The rule is not even that old. It was first introduced in 1970 at the World Cup. It's a stupid rule IMO. While it might make sense in a 38 game schedule like the the Premier League, it doesn't make sense in a 4 team group. Other competitions like UCL, European Championship, moved to head-to-head first tiebreaker.

And of course I'm expecting Iran to beat the USA. Their motivation is off the charts and coach Queiroz, as one of the most irrationally ill-tempered coaches on earth is well suited to wind up the players for it.

Very good result for Germany. Now they will be alive in the last match no matter what they do against Spain. A tie would be preferable to keep Spain motivated against Japan though.

He influenced the goalie. That counts as offside. Not only Courtois couldn't see the ball because of him, but he made an attempt to play the ball. Much more obvious than Ecuador goal

:o

Upsets again today!

Costa Rica rises after a drubbing.

De Bruyne wasn't kidding about Belgium. I thought it was a counter jinx comment.

Wowowow!

Too many finished players in our team.
Martinez at fault not bringing new, younger players in there since the Euros.

so the goalie has to see the ball? what would NHL do if this rule is effective there :o
