To me making the best out of minimal assets makes you the best and you have that done hands down. Hell you're the only person where you consistently win trades and make something out of nothing. MPH is more of an asset piler with an eye for cap management which is great but requires a lot of losing for asset gathering. You and Smash are more Spurs like in your approach to the sim.
Caveat - I was really really bad for one year and that pick landed me James Wiseman (the years surrounding that I made the playoffs). I think I set my future off by selling AD at the right time. That set me off in the right direction. But I won 50 games the year after with basically my all rookie team. I think it helped me get a further idea of what players the SIM liked and it helped me in the future winning 50 games with that roster.
There are a lot of great GM's out there would uncomfortable crowning one specific guy/girl as the best. But I would contest anyone saying I built my roster through losing. It was more timely trades if anything.
My bad MPH. Either way you're right, it takes talent to build a good squad. You either have to coach your ass off or know how to get talent in a league full of people that want to beat you.
All that said I understand you're uncomfortable crowning one person, but NewEra is by far the most annoying of all of you. In a good way lol. I never think I'll beat his squad when we play it just happens sometimes.
No worries bro. I have no problem admitting I hit the major reset button that one year. I just was middling in nowhere with a $500 AD and losing in the first round. So I tore it down in one year and built it back up. Not every move works out either.
I have spoken a lot about HEZI taking Jaylen Brown from me (I originally drafted him with AD as my core 2 guys). But Jaylen wasn't taken the leap and I traded him a year before he broke out. And I got nothing more than a middling 1st round pick back if I remember correctly.
But doesn't deter me. I think right now my trade for DeAndre Hunter which helped me with last year. But that trade looks great for Phish Tank going forward. He got Poeltl and Vassell in that deal...with Vassell breaking out that is a really nice piece and Poeltl as you know is just solid and really cheap starting center that he has control over still for another 1 after this.
I think I have a list of my really good trades that set me up even prior to the Jokic one.
I think I was killed for trading WCJ for Boucher and a 1st round pick 2 years ago...and Boucher was a huge rotational piece for me for $1 when I won my championship and the 1st round pick down the line ended up resulting in Tyrese Haliburton. There is some forward thinking with some of these moves.
You lose some you win some...but I will keep swinging.
