You have a link showing where Doc said that? If true that's awesome.

No... The announcers Rucco and JJ discussed Melton and his impact... Then whether to bring back Maxey as a "super sub"? They said they discussed it with Doc and he said the 3 guard lineup with Tobi and Joel was something he wasn't afraid to do or look to try.

Yup JJ Redick said it, for some strange reason this board wants PJ to start and Maxey off the bench tho lol

Watched the second half, and man, what a great team win. Dominated a team we are better than on the road in a big national TV spot. If we could bottle this kind of performance for playoff time, we would have something.

Because one of Maxey, Harden, or Melton is going to need to defend a 6’7+ SF every game.

Meh.

That really an issue for Harden? I mean, obviously he's a bad defender that you don't want matched up with a good offensive player, but I don't think that's any more of an issue with a 6'7+ forward than a 6' guard. Hell, might be preferable.

They end up playing zone half the time anyway.

Then we face the Celtics in the playoffs and Brown and Tatum take turns annihilating Maxey and Harden throughout the series. They are literally constructed to beat us: athletic stars, two lockdown defending guard, a big man that stretches the floor pulling Embiid away from the paint. Our team was built with no real strategy from what I can see. My guess is to enrich Harden and Morey’s old friends.

Isn't that the case regardless of who we start?

Melton might be our best defensive option on the team to matchup with Tatum.

I'm not really sure who the Cs will be starting come playoff time, but as of now you'd probably have Maxey on White and Harden on Smart, leaving Melton/Harris to guard Tatum/Brown.

I think PJ works well against the Celtics or Bucks. I also think he should be preserved for those types of matchups. Not playing 30mpg the entire season.

I honestly feel that PJ, Melton, Thybulle and maybe Maxey for closing lineups should be interchangeable. This team can be super dangerous if there's buy in and less egos. That starts with your stars though

Regular season and playoffs are different. Ya I agree, when we play Boston we'll adjust the lineup and bring Maxey off the bench of it makes sense. But in the REGULAR SEASON there is no excuse to bring Maxey off the bench, gigantic blunder. If anything PJ playing less minutes is great for him at this age. And ya there are alot of teams with 2 small guards starting. And Melton is a better defender than most.

The point I’m making is that PJ Tucker, for all his issues and terrible play, is necessary to receive big minutes each game, especially because two of our backcourt players are atrocious on defense. We’re not benching Harden or Maxey and it’s insane to ask Melton to defend stars who have 4-6” on him.

Melton can guard Brown. It has to be Harris on Tatum for the balance of the game and Embiid in high leverage possessions.

We have enough permutations of the other defenders primarily due to Tucker’s ability to guard any of the other Celtics, big or small.

Rebounding will be a big issue against them though.
